When Meryem from Casablanca Kitty Club first noticed the stray cat, something about the moment stopped her in her tracks. The cat was not running away as most strays would. Instead, he stood there quietly, watching her with wide, searching eyes. It almost felt as if he was trying to ask for help without making a sound. His gaze carried a strange mix of exhaustion and trust. As Meryem stepped closer, she began to notice something that made her heart sink. The cat’s belly was extremely swollen and round, far larger than it should have been, and it was clear he was in serious trouble.
Then she noticed his belly. What she first thought might be a pregnant female was actually a boy cat in serious trouble.
It was swollen and round, far larger than it should have been. Concerned, Meryem offered him some food. Most stray cats rush to eat when given the chance. Hunger usually wins instantly. But this cat only leaned forward and smelled the food. He did not take a single bite.
That small moment told Meryem everything she needed to know. Something was terribly wrong.
She gently captured the cat and rushed him to the veterinarian.
A Surprising Diagnosis
At first, Meryem believed she had rescued a pregnant female. The cat’s large belly made it seem obvious. But once the vets began their examination, they quickly discovered something unexpected.
The cat was actually male.
The swollen belly was not caused by pregnancy at all. It was a sign of something much more serious. The veterinary team began running tests to determine what was happening inside his tiny body.
Soon, the answer came back. The cat had FIP, or feline infectious peritonitis.
FIP occurs when a common feline coronavirus mutates inside the body of certain cats. The disease can cause dangerous fluid buildup, fever, weakness, and loss of appetite. Without treatment, many cats do not survive. The diagnosis was frightening, but there was still hope.
A Fight for His Life

The cat immediately began receiving daily injections as part of his treatment. Each day was a careful step forward. Meryem watched closely, hoping the medicine would give him a chance.
After only a few days, small signs of improvement began to appear. His fever slowly dropped. His energy started to return. Most importantly, his appetite began to improve. For the first time since Meryem found him, he showed real interest in food.
His swollen belly also began to shrink as the treatment worked.
The fragile, struggling cat was finally starting to feel better.
A New Life Named Prince
When the treatment period ended, Meryem faced a decision. Many rescued strays are eventually returned to the streets once they recover. But this cat had already endured so much.
She chose a different path.
Instead of releasing him, she welcomed him into her sanctuary permanently. There, he would be safe, cared for, and surrounded by other rescued cats. She gave him a name that suited his new life. Prince.
With time, Prince’s personality blossomed. The once-sick stray grew social and playful. He discovered the comfort of warm beds, regular meals, and gentle companionship.

Among all the other cats, Prince formed a special bond with one in particular. His best friend, Blue.
The two cats are rarely apart. They cuddle together, nap side by side, and spend their days enjoying the peaceful life they now share.
Prince, once a fragile stray with a mysterious swollen belly, is now happy, healthy, and full of energy. His quiet look for help led him to the person who would change his life forever.
