Nothing in his life had prepared him for the moment he was left behind, confused and hurting, with no familiar face in sight. At 14 years old, this gentle dog had known only the comfort of a home and the people he trusted. Then, because of painful dental issues that made eating difficult, everything changed. He was suddenly brought to a shelter and abandoned. The sounds were unfamiliar, the space felt cold, and fear quickly took over as he tried to understand why his world had disappeared overnight.
His mouth hurt constantly. Eating was difficult, and even the simplest movements seemed to cause discomfort. The shelter staff quickly realized how much pain he was in. Most of his teeth had to be removed to give him relief. It was a hard decision, but one that would finally ease his suffering.

Not because he changed who he was, but because he was finally free to be himself.
