Great Scratching Post!
Wowza!I have a cat that goes through scratching posts every 2 months, and I’d rather pay for these than new furniture! Because I buy these things so often, I was looking for something economical, but useful – that is, I didn’t want a post covered in carpet or only a foot tall. We don’t do carpeted posts because we don’t want to make it ok for cats to scratch on carpet – I mean, our house has wall to wall carpeting and a cat can’t tell the difference between carpeted stairs and her post! Our cat knows that if it’s “rope-y” – that is, covered in sisal rope – it’s ok to scratch. Anything else and she gets a talking to.Local pet stores charge an arm and a leg for any sort of scratching post, and my local superstores didn’t have anything in stock. I just received the post today and I was pleasantly surprised to find it is much larger than I anticipated. It’s taller and wider at the base than most other posts. This is a positive thing, because it provides stability when your little furperson gets all fired up and decides to tip the post over with the ferocity of her scratching. The post is at least 18″ square at the base and about 2.5 feet tall, which is great for long cats.It’s pretty well constructed too. Takes about 30 seconds to set up and they even provide you with a little allen wrench to tighten the single screw. The base is one piece and not folded (other posts fold their bases to save room, and it’s a pain in the butt to put together). I’m amazed at how nice it looks. The carpeting is more plush than carpet, which is also a positive point. I have to say that this is a great deal. My cat loves it, it’s better than most of the other scratching posts I’ve purchased over the years, and it’s at a really good price point.You won’t be disappointed, and neither will your cat!

Better sissal than others
We have several scratching post options for our cats and this one is the favorite. The sissal is a nicer quality–it’s thicker and softer to the touch. It was amazing for $15, but the price has doubled. I was concerned that it was being discontinued so I stocked up. We’re really hoping Trixie will continue to make it. The newer ones have the post in two pieces that you assemble, which is fine. Please keep making these Trixie and keep the nice sissal!

There are a host of reasons that cats need a vertical scratching surface to stay strong and healthy. Not only does it sharpen and clean their claws, it exercises muscle groups all up and down the core of their bodies, helping them stay strong and nimble. Their paws also have scent glands, leaving their scent on the post, and claiming it as their own. This scratching post is just over two feet tall, giving my cat an excellent stretch, and is wrapped with very durable fiber rope. Under daily use, the first post I got him has lasted six months, and still has life left in it. I have purchased three more of these to go in various social areas of the house, so he always has somewhere to scratch, leave his scent to claim ownership of the space, and feel at home. This post is simple, sturdy, a great value, and a must for any home with a cat.

This is only steady if you use a washer and screw to hold it down. My cats tore up the original parts holding it down. But it does work with a little tweaking of your own and they love it. Needs metal and a washer to assemble it better

De todos los rascadores que he comprado, éste es el que más ha durado. Hace año y medio que lo tengo, y es ahora cuando está empezando a verse el cartón de debajo porque la cuerda ha empezado a soltarse. Y eso que el gato lo usa continuamente; cada vez que entra en la habitación donde está va corriendo a estirarse, aunque haga cinco minutos que lo hizo por última vez. La base es muy grande, lo que hace que el rascador sea muy estable, y al ser el poste alto y ancho, el gato se puede estirar con ganas todo lo largo que es. La única pega que le veo es que no vendan repuestos de postes sueltos algo más baratos que el conjunto, porque ahora que ya irÃa necesitando reponer el rascador, la peana está todavÃa perfecta y no tendrÃa por qué cambiarla.
