Comprehensive and easy to read book with vital info for dog owners
I enjoyed the detailed run down on all the various things that can potentially go wrong. More importantly it outlines how to avoid some common disasters and also how to best deal with them should your pet experience them to provide the best care possible. While vets can provide the best treatment, it is nice to know what to do to best serve your pet until professional or emergency care can be provided if needed.I think every dog owner would be well served in reviewing the common medical conditions/emergencies vets routinely encounter and becoming conversant with what one should do in such situations. The book is nicely illustrated, easy to navigate and has a lot of reference tables, so should an emergency arise you can get to the relevant pages quickly as a refresher. The version I read on my iPad did not display well in landscape, so I read in portrait where page flipping was fine. It also was hard to make notes for some reason, so perhaps that is all on my end, but be aware you may need to adjust your reading and note taking style a bit. Despite this inconvenience I still give it 5 stars for content and helpfulness.

Helpful checklists
I appreciated how readable and grounded this guide is. Itâs written by a seasoned emergency vet, but it never feels clinical or overwhelming. Instead, it walks you through real-world scenariosâpoisonings, heatstroke, sudden collapse, injuriesâwith practical steps you can take immediately, before you even get to the vet. It doesnât rely on scare tactics or jargon, just real experience and thoughtful explanations. The bonus materials are incredibly helpful. The first aid checklist helped me build a kit I should have had years ago. And the section on trusting your instincts hit home. Too often, Iâve second-guessed myself when something felt âoff.â This book gave me the confidence to listen to that inner voice and act sooner.
