Perfect size. Much wider base, easier for birds to bath in if they want more than a drink
It really is the larger wider base thats great. I had a glass mason jar fresh water feeder with a smaller base , so only 1 1/2 inches wide for the birds to get to the water. They did bathe in it but it was a tight squeeze. This one is 2 3/4 inches. But because the its skinny at the base it gives them more room when they flutter their wings if they decide to bathe. And it holds more water. The mason glass was ok but then I realized when it gets below freezing I might have trouble with it breaking. Or if I dropped it. So these plastic ones are great. They screw on snugly. I have one that hangs high next to a window with decals so the birds don’t fly into the window which I can see when I’m Watching tv. I also have a lower hanging one on my back deck where I feed all the birds. The raccoons come at night and eat every last bit of left over seed that spills out of the feeders and I also spread seeds on the railing, so things don’t get messy. I’m happy to feed all the animals. I have two shallow plastic planters with water that you would put a pot of flowers in to catch the water on the deck for the raccoons but they are so curious they mess with the low hanging one too , so I fill it every two days usually but the higher one they can’t reach , that can last for a week, but i change it every few days so the water stays fresh. I never knew about fresh water bird feeders. It never occurred to me. Scrubbing out a bird bath gets old. This is so simple. One other review said bugs get in his water. I just started using mine a few weeks ago. I haven’t had that problem but the cooler weather is here so maybe in the summer that could happen.? I think they are great so if that does happen ill just clean it out. So far I have only notices three types of birds using it. None of the cardinals seem to be using it yet. I might order another one to hang in the yard. However I’m reluctant to do that as I’m a fall risk and there are gopher holes everywhere. But I do LOVE this feeder. The birds that do use it come often. The reason I even thought to wonder about this is because the birds were drinking from the humming bird feeder which, if we can trust it , google said was fine. But then I thought Is there a plain water feeder? and of course there was. I’m curious as to why they aren’t sold next to humming bird feeders. I guess they just think there is plenty of fresh water, but not sugar water.. I’m in a neighborhood where there is NO water around. I think you will be very happy with this feeder.. in the video you ll notice my bird stickers on the window that help the birds not fly into the window

    Excellent purchase
Great water bottles for my outdoor birds. It holds a lot of water and is heavy enough when full to stay in place on windy days. Works great through the winter months too. I have 3 of them. I highly recommend them.

    really love this waterer
I really, really love this waterer. That said, I have a couple issues with it. First is that you *will* need a thinner bottle brush, because you will see algae growth. Obviously, it’s a good idea to regularly clean feeders/waterers to keep things sanitary, but this one will need cleaning much more often. My second issue is that the holes on the bottom that dispense the water are a bit too large. The birds in my yard love to carry blackoil sunflower seed to it, and the seeds somehow always manage to migrate through the holes and up into the waterer. Even if I had just cleaned and filled it the day before, I often have to clean and refill prematurely because there is a lot of crud floating up inside it.Well, let’s get onto some good things about this product! The base is plenty wide enough for sparrows, chickadees, and finches to take baths, and boy do they love to. This thing has also become the primary water station in my yard, because I have a problem stray cat that likes to hunt around here. The birds prefer access to water up in a tree than near the ground.Despite its flaws, I am extremely happy with it and would order it again in a heartbeat. It sees just as much use as all of my feeders and the birds obviously love it. I’d give it 5 starts if not for the design issue of the holes being a bit large, allowing debris inside.

It’s unbelievably great. Need hanging waterer, get THIS ONE.
I’m writing this review nearly 1 year after purchase. I still use it. It has faded slightly in the sun. If you look at everyone’s pictures, they are bright and pretty. Mine has only slightly faded in the hot, hot, hot full Oklahoma sun, +12 hours a day. It has not cracked. I believe I’ll get another 2 years out of it. The littlest birds love it. It’s easy to clean and sturdy, clearly durable. And it looks nice too. If you want a hanging waterer that isn’t going to get pooped in, this is the one. By the way — the wind is constant where I live…when we get winds over 15 MPH, it does sway and drain.

Base is impossible to keep clean, unfortunately.
I’ve been using this bird waterer for a couple years. I agree with other reviews that it’s functional, attractive, high-capacity, and birds love it. Mine hasn’t cracked, but it wasn’t used in winter. I DON’T agree that it’s easy to clean, specifically NOT the base. It’s made of decent quality plastic but with a very rough sandpaper-like coating that holds onto EVERYTHING (like bird poop) which is impossible to remove from the gritty surface. Using caustic chemicals to clean it would undoubtedly leave toxic residue, making it unsafe for birds to drink out of. The result is an unsightly blotchy dirty-looking base I don’t feel is safe for birds to drink out of. If only it had a smooth easy-to-clean surface, this would be a successful product for me. I understand that the rough surface is easier for birds feet to grip, but I’m reluctantly shopping for one that is easier to keep clean.
