Very good quality, and squirrel-resistant if not quite squirrel-proof
If you feed wild birds, you know what devious little geniuses squirrels are. They infuriate, amaze, and amuse us with their ability to thwart our efforts to keep them out of our bird feeders. I’ve been disappointed (but not surprised) by “squirrel-proof” feeders in the past, but I gave this one a try anyway.The feeder is a tube with four feeding ports. There is a metal “cage” around the tube that is attached to the top of the feeder by metal springs. When a bird lands on the perches adjacent to the ports, their weight is not enough to pull the cage down, and they can access the food. But if a squirrel hangs on to the cage, its weight will cause the cage to drop, and barriers on the cage will cover the ports. When the squirrel gets off the cage, it springs back into normal position.Two things I really like about this feeder are the springs and the secure top. I’ve had a feeder before that used tiny coiled springs, barely more than what you’d find in a ball-point pen. The squirrels easily stretched those out of shape. The spring here is not a coil–sort of a leaf spring–and much more substantial. The top is secured by a knob that screws on instead of just sitting on top of the tube or being held by some method that the squirrels easily defeat. Overall, the feeder feels very sturdy.But does it keep squirrels out?I filled the feeder and hung it in a place that I knew squirrels could get to. I secured it with a bungee cord put through the ring on the top and then looped a few times over a tree branch. Over the next two weeks, I never saw a squirrel even try to get into it! I didn’t, and still don’t, know why. But one coolish night, I was sleeping on our screened porch, and I heard a metallic clanking sound, over and over. I couldn’t see the feeder, but I knew that the sound was the outer wire cage of the feeder snapping back into its normal position after being pulled down by a squirrel. The noise went on for a while, and I fell asleep. The next morning, the feeder was on the ground, twenty feet from where it had been hung. The squirrels were like old-time bank robbers who, unable to blow open a safe, decide to just take it with them. The feeder was undamaged, and, as far as I could tell, they weren’t able to get much of the bird feed out of it.So, I’d give this feeder high marks for its resistance to squirrels. And the other qualities of the feeder make it my new favorite.

No more squirrels
This bird feeders shipped quickly and just came in a simple cardboard box. It comes already assembled. The only disassemble needed is when you put the birdseed in, you have to unscrew the top remove the lid, put the birdseed in and reverse that process ,then hang it.The birdfeeder is well-made and looks great hanging in the garden. When hanging you need to pull down the bird stands and they are two different levels of them. It takes very little weight for the outer side to drop down or allowing the birdseed to be eaten and this is the squirrel protection function. It has the additional benefit of not allowing large birds to eat the seed as I have small birds that sometimes get pushed out of my other birdfeeders.Is it is a very popular location for the birds as you can see my birdfeeder right shown in the picture is empty, I have to get more birdseed. The birdfeeder seems to be very durable. Itâs been hanging out all this time with no signs of wear. As the birdfeeder has multiple feeding stations I sometimes have multiple birds eating at the same time, which is great to watch.I would recommend this birdfeeder for anybody that wants to attract small birds to the yard and also has a problem with squirrels eat the the food. For what it is and does itâs a very reasonable price for this birdfeeder.
