There is a lot to like about this bird feeder. It has a very sturdy metal construction, adjustable “squirrel proof” seed covering doors, and a metal lid that screws into place. First I will go into the feeder’s make up. This bird feeder looks and feels like it will last for years outside in our unpredictable weather. It has a metal lid that is held into place by a screw attached to the heavy duty wire hanger. Not only does this make it easy to open and fill the box, but it should also keep squirrels from unscrewing the lid and just eating from the feeder. It has a plastic window on both sides and a nice little sun design to cover the window and give it some reinforcement.The openings for the seed include a perch that is held in place with an adjustable spring system. This allows you to adjust the perch for larger birds (depending on what you’re interested in feeding) and for the determent of squirrels. As soon as you place any real pressure on the perch the door will close. I realize that squirrels are very crafty and will likely always find a way to defeat a feeder, but this should be a decent to better than decent deterrent.All in all I like this feeder a lot. It has thoughtful and practical solutions to squirrel seed stealing, and allows for adjustment to the spring system as well. When you combine that with it’s robust metal housing this is a good choice for someone wanting their first (or additional) feeder or giving one as a gift.

Stunningly beautiful with an ingenious design!
This Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder is a very quality item made with heavy materials and beautifully painted. The ingenious design allows birds to perch on the 2 bars in front and back and eat, but if anything heavier than a bird touches the bars, it closes the feeder. How ingenious!! The feeder holds quite a bit of bird feed and keeps it dry even in the rain. We have had it up for 2 weeks and many birds have used it, but not a single squirrel has gotten to it. We did hang it from a rope to its hanging cable, so its about 3 feet below the branch. We hung it on a branch about 5 feet out from the trunk. Squirrels just sit in the tree and look at at! It works!!

Living Up to Its Billing as âSquirrel Proofâ
So far, so good. I hung this feeder a week ago. Within a few hours I looked out the window to find a squirrel hanging on in an inverted position, pressing down on the spring-loaded perch/cover mechanism that shuts off access to the bird seed. The squirrel then flip upright and tried to figure out how to get to the seed through the transparent panes. Again, no luck. The squirrel abandoned its attempted theft and jumped off. I have not seen another squirrel on it since, although I have no doubt other attempts have been made. Given I have not seen the food volume drop in the precipitous manner it has previously, I believe this feeder is effective in thwarting the squirrels from their periodic raids. For now, anyway. If my experience with squirrels has taught me anything, it is they are resourceful and persistent. Weâll see how well this holds up when the current bumper yield of acorns has diminished and food is in tighter supply.

Solidly made bird feeder that holds a lot of seed
This is a solidly made bird feeder that comes fully assembled. Made of metal, it has a good paint job that looks like it should last a while. I haven’t seen any squirrels try it yet, but the spring that holds the pieces that close off the seed are adjustable, allowing you to exclude larger birds as well. The top is held on with a screwdown piece that also holds the hanging cable, allowing you to open it up completely for refilling and cleaning. My only concern is that the plastic on the faces seems a little thin. We’ll see how well it holds up to periodic pecking. Oh, and while the listing does mention that one of the target species are hummingbirds, I kind of doubt you’ll get many at this feeder!

This Metal Bird Feeder is Definitely squirrel proof.
If you want a bird feeder that is definitely squirrel proof, this is the one you want. This feeder is quality made of metal, holds 5 pounds of whatever seed you like to feed your birds and will keep all squirrels out. I love the design. The tray that the bird feed sits in is accessible to the bords, because they can stand on the tray and because they are light enough, they can eat till their heart is content. Yet, if a squirrel jumps on the tray, the springs drop the Weight-Activated Perches right over the bird feed, and it is simply inaccessible to the squirrels.The picture shows the Weight-Activated Perches half open and then completely closed. It is a great design. So far, the squirrels have not gotten a seed! The top of the feeder itself, locks closed and the squirrels can not get in that way either, and since the entire feeder is made of metal; they just don’t have a chance!

Nice size and game changer for my birds
Where we live, we are constantly feeding not just the birds, but also the neighborhood squirrels. This bird feeder is brilliant! First, let me say that this is a big bird feeder. You will be able to put a lot of bird seed in it. The top opens up to a large opening for you to pour in the seed. You won;t need a funnel or anything like that. The front and back are see thru so you can see when you need to refill it. The color is a bright red. The rails for the birds to sit on are wide. So, multiple birds can feed at a time. But, let a squirrel get on it. The weight of the squirrel will put the bar down, which closes their access to the seed. Once the squirrel leaves, the bar opens back up so the birds can resume eating. Brilliant idea! I love it! Now, if I can just find something to keep the blue jays out of the squirrel feeders! Love this bird feeder!
