Solid choice for putting weight on your horse
Iâm pretty particular about what I feed my horses. I want something that works without overcomplicating things. This supplement is a straightforward way to add calories for horses that need a bit more bulk. Iâve been using it on my older gelding whoâs always been a hard keeper, and after a couple of weeks, Iâm seeing a nice fill out. It mixes easy into feed, and he gobbles it right up, no fuss. Can get pricey quick if there’s an underlying issue beyond just needing more calories.

Really easy to feed and highly palatable
This is awesome! It is easy to scoop with the included scoop. It smells delicious (vanilla), almost good enough to eat! My horse, who has never had anything like this before, gobbled it up. She has lost some weight over the winter and I wanted something to add a little weight back. One serving size is 2 scoops 1 ounce each. I started her off with 1 scoop to help her get used to it but she didn’t seem to need that. Happy to eat it.I love that this is a “powder” as opposed to a liquid. I board my horses and can’t set up their grain with liquids ahead of time. With this one, I can set up the week and it lasts. I used the term powder loosely because it isn’t quite a powder. It felt and looked like little spherical grains.SmartPak products are very of high quality and easy to use and feed. Love them!

Pricey, but is a good supplement for weight gain
I have used one other weight gain supplement and it contained much less fat than this product. My very old mule ate it with no problem added to his warm mash (he has few teeth) and he also ate it added to his senior grain. I could see the difference as he gained weight.I often use oil as a fat supplement but I have to keep it in the house in the winter as it freezes in the barn. Adding a dry supplement that can be stored in the barn is much more convenient.Unfortunately, towards the end of the bag he started refusing it. That is typical of Pete. Just when I find a good schedule and a good diet, he decides to try to starve himself. I don’t think it is any indicate of the supplement.I took off a star because of the cost. I know good supplements are expensive but I don’t think from a manufacturing standpoint they need to be. The convenience of this product is great but if you can’t afford the cost I think you can come up with some homemade options.

Amazing supplement
This has been a game changer! I have a super hard keeper mare who cribs (which just adds to the challenge). I’ve seen a noticeable improvement in her appearance since starting this supplement. I would recommend anyone give this a try if they are struggling with their horse.

Great results.
I can’t say enough good things about this product. I have an older thoroughbred who had always been an easy keeper until last year. She dropped weight over the winter of 2024 and even though her teeth were done on a regular basis, she was on ulcer treatments with an ulcer guard, free feed grass and both fresh alfalfa and soaked alfalfa pellets and a high quality senior feed with very light work load she still looked thin. I added this to her nightly bucket and it’s helped her gain weight significantly. I highly recommend it wether you have a horse in competition or an older, retired horse, this will I’ve you steady results.

Great smelling, 99% fat concentrate
This weight builder, 99% fat, supplement, smells amazing!!!!! My horses do not pick through this, they eat it very willingly with their grain.I show my youngsters on the line so having them at an ideal weight is important and can be tough as they are growing. So far, they eat this supplement and they look great on it. I am only adding one scoop to start with one of their daily feeding to figure out how this works. It is very concentrated at 99% fat. The quality looks amazing and it arrived in a 14 pound, resealable, water-resistant bag.So far I am happy to be able to add extra fat, without dealing with an oil, or having to continue to increase the amount of grain I need in order to maintain weights and hopefully in time add some weight as the youngsters continue to grow.I love this and it is a lot easier to manage and travel with then oils.

Easy to feed but I’m wondering about the omega-3/6 ratio
SmartPak is a great company and I’ve had excellent results with their products. I’m assuming the omega-3 and omega-6 ratio is balanced appropriately for horses but there’s nowhere that I can find that indicates the source of the fat and the omega ratio. Getting this wrong can promote inflammation so it’s important to pay attention to. This product comes with a scoop and is very easy to feed, it’s palatable and sticks to my mare’s pellets so none is wasted. Hopefully manufacturer updates the packaging to include the missing info regarding source of the vegetable fat and the omega ratio.
