Customers say
Customers find the heat bulb easy to use and set up, with good quality and value for money. Moreover, the functionality receives positive feedback, with one customer noting the thermometer works great. However, the temperature control receives mixed reviews, with some saying it maintains temperature while others report it doesn’t output enough heat. Additionally, durability and sturdiness are concerns, with multiple customers reporting that the dome falls off the base and the product broke within the first week of use.

Works great
Easy to set up a d use right away. I got this for my hedgehog ð¦ and it’s great. It keeps her cage at the perfect temperature and you can set the temperature and it will turn on and off by itself to the temperature you set.

Cooked chicks, NOT! EDITED!!!
See edit below:Tried offline… As a new unit I set it up in an empty brooder to test it. Tied the sensor 2″ off the floor, set the temperature to 102° and took readings. The temperature rose to 116° per the controller and verified with a handheld digital thermometer. Dropped to 100° and started heating. Two problems; temperature went too high and the heater plug just barely stays in the controller. It fell out three times. I expect better heat control from a digital controller… Another test: I set the controller to 95°, temperature went to 113° before it shut off. This time I put it in a cooler with the heater at one end and the probe set on a brick. The controller sits outside with the wires going inside. Too high of a temperature swing for a digital controller. My contact via email was totally unsatisfactory. “I would like to inform you that the probe should be attached to the surface where temperature needs to be monitored, probe wasn’t designed to measure the temperature of the air.” Thermisters measure temperature, whether in air or suction cupped to a surface. I guess I need to return it and buy from another supplier.Edit follows:I was sent a new unit and decided to test it in a cooler for better control of variables. I plugged it in, put a 40 watt incandescent bulb in as a heater, set it for 105degrees and turned the light on. In 5 minutes the air temperature rose to 105 degress and the unit turned off the light. The temps fell to 103 degrees and the unit powered up the light. Great, just what I wanted!I repeated the test with the 150 watt ceramic heater that came with the kit. We went off the rails… The temperature rose to 105 degrees, turned off and the temperature continued to rise to 135 degrees! Yikes! I did some further research and found that the ceramic heater went up to 500 degrees. It weighed 6 ounces at 500 degrees so it continued to contribute heat to the cooler air. BTUs are mass times heat rise divided by the air volume… I didn’t get the BTU thing done but my guess is that was 150 BTUs stored in the ceramic heater and as they dissipated the temps soared too high even though the power was off. The 40 watt bulb weighed .8 ounces and probably had a .1 BTU.The take away from this escapade? Don’t use a heavy, high watt heater when a light (no pun intended), low watt heater will do the trick.I retested the original controller with the 40 watt bulb and it was perfect. My apologies for not figuring this out before you sent me the replacement. With a heater sized to the task this controller is perfect!I think customer service might need to know about this issue so it can be addressed.Maybe have a redirect to their website to calculate the heater size needed before purchase?

Thermometer is good but the heat shield threading sucks
The heat shield worked for a day, and even then it was loose. Thermal expansion came around and just said no, so now it won’t stay on, even when I tried to use thermal tape. Now I bought this for the thermometer and the ceramic heat bulb but turns out that’s WAYYYYY too much for like a 10 gallon tank. So I figured I’d use it with a 80w bulb, which works with the other dome I already had. For the price, it’s worth it just for the thermometer cutoff part of the set. Se thing at pets mart would run between $50-$70, but if you’re going to get this for the heat shield/ceramic heat bulb part of it, look elsewhere. Maybe I’ll try to crimp the threads onto the fixture, I’m not sure. Either way it’s hardly worth countacting the company to send everything back over a crappy piece of aluminum. Will be keeping because of the thermostat/power supply combo which works fine.Thermometer is responsive with a decently high refresh rate on the screen, though the little plastic tip does insulate it, so be careful. You might think your Hotspot is only 90 degrees when in fact it’s closer to 110. For the power regulation part you just hold the “set” button for a few seconds until it starts blinking and then set the temp. The light that is plugged into it will not work until then. When it reaches the set temp, it shuts off and will stay off until the thermometer reaches a full 2 degrees below what it’s set to before turning back on. All of those features work pretty well. Only crap thing is the heat shield that goes on the fixture.Edit – changing my review from 3 to 4 stars. I threw a TON of that white non adhesive tape stuff that’s used to seal threads. Probably like 10-15 times around the threads and it’s holding for now which is nice since now I can take back the heat shield I bought at petsmart. That dome alone cost as much as this whole kit so overall not a bad deal at all. Will update if anything changes.

Best heat lamp on Amazon
This lamp is perfect for hedgehogs! The thermostat keeps temp and the lamp heats without keeping him up with any light. For the price you canât beat this value!

I absolutely love this heat lamp! It comes with a digital thermometer to keep track of the temperature⦠I used it for my hedgehog! Keep him warm and didnât get extremely hot and never had an issue with any burning smells or melting. I highly recommend this product for the fuzzy critter needing heat in your life.

Really nice quality
I bought this set to use in my chicken coop, although I have a bigger bulb for heat, as this ceramic bulb would not suffice for the space. I plan to use the ceramic bulb in my tortoise’s winter enclosure. The temperature control module is exceptionally well made and far exceeds my expectations. The heat shroud is very large, suitable for any purpose, and durable. This is one of my best purchases and I thank the seller for offering a quality product at a reasonable rate.

Works great. Kicks off whenever it reaches set temperature.
Works really well so far. It kicks off at the set temperature you set it for. Easy to read digital display.

It was ok, but didnât last long
I bought it last year 2021 for my hedgehog and a year later it exploded. The temperature was not consistent. Sometimes I would find the lamp cold even with the temperature set and showing it was on. Last month while cleaning my hedgehogâs cage, i sensed a weird smell coming from the lamp so while checking it I heard a explosion sound and the thermostat went off.

Use it in my chicken coop and it works really well. Easy to select temp and helps to maintain a minimum. In the winter, I set it to 12 Celsius.
