Is it designed to avoid promoting algae growth?
Yes, the SR-657 aquarium light can be turned on/off at the time you set, and the 20 levels of brightness can be adjusted to effectively prevent algae growth.
Is the battery included? Do I have to use batteries? How long does the battery last?
Yes, CR1220 batteries are included. The battery is only for memory function, and the LED light and controller can work without the battery. The battery only consumes power when power supply is disconnected.
Can this light help plants grow?
Of course! The spectrum of this aquarium light increases the intensity of red and blue light, which is more conducive to the growth of rhizomes and leaves of plants, and promotes the natural circulation of the water tank.

The night mode can’t overlap with day mode. The night timer will auto skip the hours that is taken by day mode. Please edit day mode timer first.

Caused MASSIVE algae outbreak due to brightness. Upgraded version is great!
UPDATE #2 I upgraded my original review from 2-5 starsThe customer service has been excellent from this seller. After I got my massive algae outbreak under control(see below) I purchased the upgraded version of this light which now has the ability to change brightness and color in 24/7 mode. The only way to tell if you receive the upgraded version ( because the old and new are currently mixed together at the warehouse) is to look at page 10 of the manual. If the top line on the page says time, color, brightness, you received the newer version. There is a battery backup in the control that saves current settings in case of a power outage which is a great feature. There are helpful programming videos explaining how to set up the controls, so it’s not as complicated as it initially seemed. I am currently running 2 different sizes of this light on 2 separate tanks and have been very pleased with the newer version. My plants are doing great and there’s no algae outbreak in sight. I will buy more in the future.ORIGINAL REVIEW. The controls are quite complicated to program on this very bright light. The biggest problem that I have experienced is that there is no way to dim the light intensity level when on 24/7 mode, which resulted in a MASSIVE hair algae outbreak that covered all of my plants, glass and rocks in a surprisingly short period of time. I have pulled out an entire tank full of live plants 3 times and dipped them in diluted peroxide followed by dosing of liquid carbon to try to keep them from dying due to algae suffocation. I have also removed all of the hardscape and scrubbed it down to remove the blanket of algae covering it as well. I have been doing 50% water changes every 3 days for the past 4 weeks because the algae returns so rapidly. I have even done total blackouts which helped, but once I turned the light back on for 2 hours per day, for the plants survival, poof! the algae returned with a vengeance. I have become a slave to my aquarium, spending many hours per week battling this scourge. It will be a miracle if my plants survive, because they are all currently melting. Once this algae sets in it seems to be very difficult to overcome. I finally resorted to replacing this high intensity light with the old kit light that came with my aquarium and so far the algae has not returned.UPDATE #1: Customer service reached out to me several hours after posting this review and offered me an upgraded replacement that allows brightness adjustment in 24/7 mode or a refund. Customer service has been excellent. I am willing to try the upgraded light, since I was happy with the quality. Regarding the difficult programming of the light schedule, customer service sent me more detailed directions and is also willing to help program specific times if needed. This company has been very willing to stand behind their product, which I really appreciate. I will be happy to try the upgraded version.

Amazing light
This is a great light! It is easy to program. You can adjust the 24/7 mode colors, brightness, and timing. It is super bright! But it does get hot on full brightness so I lower the brightness so that hopefully it will last longer. I would recommend this one especially for the affordable price.

Pretty good value
I have these in a few sizes, but this is the only one I’ve actually set up. It’s a pretty good value for the functions. Battery backup was on the top of my list for features, most lights with built in timers won’t keep time during a power outage but these don’t have that issue. A battery is included but it’s an odd size button cell so you might want to order a few as backup when you get it, it wasn’t something I keep around for multiple other like a 2032, it’s some smaller battery I’ve already forgot the type, 1220 maybe. The instructions are adequate to set it up on both 24/7 or on/off, I’ve got it running on the 24/7 setup and it’s nice having more subdued colors for a longer time period as an accent vs full blast for part of the day, though you can customize the length of all 5 slots. Quality is ok, this particular unit doesn’t sit perfectly flat on the tank, it’s only a few mm from a small warp but it is somewhat annoying, neither of the longer units I have had this issue when I tested them. Most of the cheapo light bars have a plastic housing, this is aluminum, although it doesn’t have heat sinks, but it doesn’t really get hot so that doesn’t matter. Plenty bright for shallow tanks or for growing rheophytes and other low light plants and it has good color. I think the timer box placement is a little odd considering it’s not waterproof, it’s maybe 18″ from the light itself but it seems like it would be better off further away just to reduce splash since in my case it sits against the bottom of the outside of the tank and I am not gentle with water changes, though I haven’t had any issues yet. These are the only 24/7 lights I’ve tried, all my other lights are on off only, some with manual dimming, running on wifi timers. I live off grid, and while my power system is more reliable than PG&E for downtime, I do have occasional outages or maintenance, and I would lose my mind if I had to reprogram everything each time I shut down the system, so I am really happy with the battery feature.Overall these are great lights for the price, I don’t have money for the 2 big name aquatic plant light brands and I think this is about as good as you can get on a budget. I forgot to get pictures of it and the tank is sleeping right now, might add some if I remember.

Great light perfect for plant keeping
This light made all my plants grown tall and it perfect since I can always have it plugged in and it automatically turns off and on and it can be customized to lower the brightness at certain times I want it to, If you have a shrimp tank I would recommend getting this since I’m a starter it has worked very well for me, I now have over 100 shrimps in this tank.

Really like it so far! It took a bit of time to set up the 24/7 cycle, but with the help of AI, it got much easier. The lighting looks really awesome in different tones, and Iâve already noticed my Corydoras showing much more activity, they are noticeably more active in the softer light.

Die Ausgabe hat sich gelohnt. Es lässt sich ein Tagesablauf mit verschiedenen Farben und Helligkeitsstufen vorgeben. Es wird nicht die volle Leistung verbraucht, die Leistung ist von der Einstellung abhängig. Manche Farben sind noch zu unnatürlich. Da sind wahrscheinlich Geräte mit Appsteuerung noch besser. Trotzdem eine Empfehlung, weniger Stromverbrauch als mit Leuchtstoffröhren. Besseres Licht, einstellbare Farben und Helligkeit, Tagesprogramm und ein geringer Anschaffungspreis.
