Product description

Scotty’s Bugs Sterilized Mulched Leaf Litter is the natural choice for enhancing the well-being of your beloved forest-dwelling pets in their bioactive terrariums. Derived from natural woodlands, this leaf litter has been carefully collected and sterilized, ensuring a clean and safe substrate for your isopods, reptiles, amphibians, snails, and other detritivore companions. Additionally, it is properly mulched, creating a substrate that better fills enclosures, enhancing burrowing opportunities and offering easily digestible food for the inhabitants. The mixture includes oak, elm, and maple tree leaves.
It’s more than just substrate; it’s a natural ecosystem that brings the forest floor to your pet’s habitat.
Scotty’s Bugs Leaf Litter Benefits: Nurturing Your Terrarium’s Ecosystem

Nutrient-Rich Substrate
When added to existing soil substrates, mulched leaf litter breaks down faster than whole leaves, adding nutrients to the substrate and providing food for springtails and isopods. Your forest-dwelling friends will find it irresistible, and your terrarium plants will benefit from its organic decomposition.

Improved Burrowing and Shelter
These dried leaves are properly mulched, creating a substrate that maximizes the space for burrowing and provides your animals with excellent shelter and protected spots.

Enhanced Visual Barriers
Every pet needs its hideaway and safe spot, and these leaves provide the perfect hiding place for animals. They act as visual barriers, making them feel safe in their environment. Additionally, they can make your enclosure appear more spacious, reducing potential stress for tank inhabitants living in close quarters.

Humidity Control
Because this leaf litter naturally holds moisture, it helps keep the humidity levels in your enclosure at ideal levels. This aspect is particularly beneficial for organisms that rely on humidity, such as isopods and springtails.
By adding Scotty’s Bugs Mulched Leaf Litter to your existing soil substrates, you’re not only improving the appearance of your pet’s enclosure but also providing them with a more natural, comfortable, and functional habitat. Your forest-dwelling friends will find this leaf litter irresistible, and your plants will benefit from its decomposition as it enriches the soil.
Available in two different sizes to suit your tank’s needs. The 12-ounce pack is enough to cover the bottom of a 10-gallon tank, while the 24-ounce pack provides ample coverage for a thicker layer or multiple tanks.

Fantastic for garden snails and isopod enclosures
I wound up taking a risk and trying a brand I was unfamiliar with when redoing our garden snail and isopod enclosures, and Iâve been really pleased with the quality and the size of the bag for how much I spent on this leaf litter. Even more importantly, our little creepy crawlies seem to LOVE it. Especially the isopods, who all scatter to check it out the moment fresh litter is placed in.All of the leaves are of a fairly uniform color with a bit of variation in size here and there. If youâre looking for something thatâs crushed to a fine powder, this is not the item for you. My isopods and snails seem to enjoy the variation, and itâs super easy to clean up if any happens to spill. Iâve never once noticed any sign of contamination, which means I know itâs safe for my little guys. Always a good idea to be vigilant for pests when introducing anything new to their environment!I still have over half the bag left, so Iâd say itâs a great value considering I paid about $15 for it months ago.Iâll definitely be ordering a second bag when this one runs low!

Great for isopods
Iâve been waiting to review this one.I have 4 types of isopods, and 4 types of springtails. I use this in my isopod enclosures where I also keep some springtails and they all seem to love it. They are all active and breeding like crazy, so the leaves must be good right? No issues, no odors, no unexpected hitchhikers. If I need more im the future will be buying again!

Plenty for a 10 gallon
Love it! Less work for me when I don’t have time to collect, sanitize & prepare. I have a 10 gallon & it’s only on the dry side. I have 3/4 of the bag left. I didn’t find big leaves. Mine are mulched. However, I added whole leaves on top. Great overall.

Dusty and Twigs and Stuff Mixed In
Smells and looks dusty. I mostly placed it at the bottom of my substrate levels, even though I intended for it to be at the top, because I worried it would affect the air quality for my snails and isopods. I ordered whole oak leaves from a small business in Colorado that offered much better quality and freshness, with no dust, no twigs, etc. It was TerrariumTribe’s Pin Oak Leaf Litter.

Very clean leaf litter. Isopods seem to love it. Will buy again.

Just what I needed.
Mulched and sanitized, ready to use. Price is worth it to me, especially for mixing into isopod substrate.

Good for Isopods
Used in my Isopod tank as a more broken down layer between dirt and larger leaves, they seem to love it.
