Salifert aquarium water test kits are the epitome of accuracy and precision. Their wide range of available tests have all been designed to detect the smallest traces of certain elements, without interference from other chemicals within the water. Simply put, these are the best test kits you can buy- hands down. The sharp, contrasting color changes make results easy to read so there’s no second guessing. Trust your aquarium to Salifert. Detects small changes in carbonate hardness which can affect pH and the growth of both fish and coral. Salifert Magnesium Profi-Test Magnesium is present in natural sea water in a fairly high concentration (1350 – 1500 mg/L) and is an essential element of chlorophyll which is necessary for photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis plants, algae and coral would not be able to survive. Magnesium also helps to maintain the correct combination of calcium concentration and alkalinity as it slows down the formation of calcium carbonate which can absorb many important trace elements within the aquarium. Maintaining a correct magnesium concentration is therefore very important and is indirectly responsible for fast coral and calcareous algae growth by making it possible to maintain correct calcium and alkalinity figures. Magnesium is depleted by algae growth and also by the use of excessive kalkwasser or by going far beyond natural calcium, alkalinity and pH values. The Salifert Magnesium Profi-Test is easy to use and accurate with measurements in steps of 30 mg/L. Results are not affected by strontium and calcium interference. Can be used for marine water only. Calcium and strontium will not interfere when their total concentration is between 200 and 650 ppm. This is mostly the case. Up to 50 tests.Warning!Keep out of reach of children. Not for consumption.

    Bad packaging. Good value.
Works very well. Accurate readings. Packaging could have been better. Boxes were placed in clear plastic bag and taped. Some boxes were crushed. No damage to the test tubes thankfully. Would have been better had they been shipped in a box.

    Perfect, Item Not Expired
I’ve ordered similar test kits before from other businesses and received test kits that were either expired or close to expiring. However, of the packages I received the earliest expiration date was 12/2026. Overall I’m very happy with this purchase and glad I was sent a product that wasn’t expired.

    They work
Salifert is the best IMO but frequently the color change is extremely hard to determine. That is why only 4 stars.

3 salifert test kits for one low price..what more can one ask for? Came well packed, complete, and no where near the expiration date. This is a good deal.

Wasn’t Clear that it’s ONLY for Saltwater Testing
Reef keepers may balk at this negative review as user error, and I guess it partly is, however nothing on the box or in the main product description lists this test as saltwater only. I keep mainly freshwater planted aquariums and we also closely monitor calcium and magnesium in the water since we’re constantly dosing fertilizer. Most test kits in the market are for both saltwater and freshwater so I assumed this kit was the same however the issue is that there is much less calcium and magnesium in freshwater vs saltwater and the testing range of this kit can only detect high levels of calcium (~350ppm and above) and magnesium (unsure of min). What’s worse is Amazon doesn’t accept returns for this item at all so I’m left with $50 down the drain. As far as the kit itself, as a first time user I will say that it was confusing for me. Before realizing this kit doesn’t work for freshwater I went through multiple attempts and the instructions weren’t great. As an example for the calcium test you have to draw 1ml of testing liquid however the shape of the syringe provided creates a large air bubble so you are really only able to draw around .8ml of liquid. The instruction then tells you NOT to try and remove the air bubble but then it says to gradually deposit the “1ml” of liquid which you never fully obtained in the first place. I think the issue is a translation problem but nevertheless it’s confusing and I saw multiple posts online with people confused about the process.Overall though I know Salifert is general considered to be a good brand, just apparently with bad translation.
