A. Slow down the water flow speed. Usually, the water flow time through the lamp is required to be greater than or equal to 1 second (Clean light >3000uW/cm2).
B. Increase the working time of the clean light and the cleaning effect will be enhanced proportionally.
C. Increase the power of the clean light, such as from 5 watts to 10 watts, then the cleaning effect will be doubled.
D. Combined with the above scheme, the cleaning effect will be greatly improved.

Why didn’t I use this earlier?
I’ve been keeping fish on and off for decades. Recently, I had an issue in my fully cycled 29 gallon tank that has been operating without issue for a full year. The water suddenly turned murky, then green. Research pointed me to a UV sterilizer, and I bought this one.The manufacturer says “not recommended for 24 hour use”, so at first I ran it for 6 hours – not much of a change – bumped it up to 12, again, little (but some) improvement. I finally bit the bullet and set it for a continuous 24 hour run. In 5 days, the water was pristine, easily the clearest it is ever been.I believed the recommendation to avoid 24 hours is due to the bulb life – this little baby will burn out quickly at that rate, probably within 6 months. I plan to try a 12 hour cycle, and if the water stays clear, maybe bring it down to 6 hours. But one thing is for sure – this has become a permanent fixture in my aquarium setup, now that I’ve learned all it can do. And, I’ll be buying one for my quarantine tank, since it’s a great way to clear ich and other disease causing bacteria.At this price point, I have no issue replacing the unit every 6 months, and I love the fact that the bulb is shielded, meaning no fried inverts or fish.Happy as a clam! (or should I say snail or shrimp…)

Very solid build for the price, and the fact that i dont have to have a sump makes it well worth the price! The timer is interesting and could be useful if you have consistent issues, but its just as good running constantly.

This Surprisingly Does Prevent Algae Water Blooms
UPDATED: I overall like this device and its effectiveness toward controlling algae, however, be aware the bulb has s limited lifespan. I had read from other buyers that after a year they need to replaced, but it seems that I lucked out because my unit lasted 1 1/2 years before the bulb wore out. However, my aquarium water which previously was consistently cloudy due to algae in the water has remained crystal clear and this device also dramatically reduced my artificial plants, rock and other decor from becoming covered with dark algae. I had been using a liquid algae killer water additive, but recently introduced a pet blue crayfish and it wouldâve been harmful to that creature. And for the record, the algae killer liquid chemicals did not seem to work for any extended length of time, so was not as effective as this underwater ultraviolet light device. The underwater cords are generous in length even for my 40 gallon tank. My only slight consideration is the device is somewhat large in size, so you need to camouflage it with plants or place it where it remains out of sight.There are other units where you can change the bulb, but I like this one because it uniquely has a cover that camouflages the light and protects both your fish and human eyes. Direct UV light exposure is harmful to fish and damaging to human eyes.

Small, easy, and effective (for small tanks)
So far, I like this little thing. I’ve actually bought two. I use them primarily in my small tanks, a 5G and three 2.5Gs. Within a day, it clears the water right up! I haven’t tried it in any of the larger tanks. It’s a small wattage and a small unit, so I don’t know how effective it would be in a tank 20G or more. But I’ve tried a lot of UV sterilizers, and most of them leaked. These are not like that. They just hang on the inside, and water flows through them as the currents in the tank take it. Like I said, I have two, so I use one in a couple of small tanks, clear up that water and move them to another if needed.

Goodbye Green Water
Cleared my 75 gallon fish tank right up. Tried all kinds of chemicals only to find out that the algae bloom was from light and I needed a UV light to kill the algae. All you need to do is leave your lights off and let this work for a few days. My tank went from murky and green tint to crystal clear.

Why did I wait so long to buy this for my freshwater tank?! The algae bloom was completely cleared in under a week. I still have it set up but thanks to the timer, I run minimal hours and have not had any trouble with fish or tank maintenance.

Works! I’d been dealing with a bacteria bloom for almost 4 weeks. Tank was heavily planted and was 2 months old and stocked with shrimp already. I just found the cloudy water unsightly.I installed the uv light near the filter out flow to push water through the lamp. The cloudiness was noticeably reduced after just 1 day. I had the light on for 8h a day. It was all clear my the 3rd day, but I kept it on for an additional 2 just to be safe.Shrimp and snails all stayed out of the light and the micro fauna seemed fine.Ran this on a 2nd nano tank too to clear up the cloudy water there. I think Bacter AE caused the issue in the first place,even though I used a very very tiny (half grain of uncooked rice) amount in a 10 gallon tank and even less in the nano (2.5 gallon).Keeping this lamp around for any future issues.

My 10 gallon tank was cloudy and green. I used the light for 10 hrs a day for the first 3 days and now I have it down to 5 hrs. I plan to reduce it gradually and only use it when needed from now on. It is super easy to use. There’s only one button to choose the time and no assembly, other than putting it in the tank. Great product!

I hate writing negative reviews but I want to inform other people to steer away from this product!!It arrived broken and the glass tube for the inner lamp was what was broken so itâs deemed unusable and unsafe. I will be returning this item and purchasing another UV lamp from another manufacturer.Also, the UV lamp cannot be replaced once it either burns out or needs replacing so with a life span of approximately 1 year, one has to buy a completely new unit every year which is not acceptable. Thank you.
