Significantly reduces mess
I love this. The purchase was for two main reasons and it accomplishes both.1) My parrotlet is mean and I got tired of him biting when we stuck our hand in to feed. This also made it easier for anyone to feed him. The little kids were not willing to help and get bit. Now I can just remind anyone to feed him and itâs easier because itâs on the outside of the cage.2) He is messy AF. This nearly eliminated the mess. Solved.I do believe the reservoir is the best part. When I mix his food with seeds etc, he tends to pick out only what he wants, naturally. Before, the rest of the food would fly everywhere as he digs for his choice. Now, everything just falls in the reservoir, and when it gets full I just pour back into the top. It has saved so much food waste!You still have to know your bird and not just rely on a new feeder to do everything for you. My bird likes to grind his pellets down, so the bottom reservoir gets filled fast. If you donât want it to make a mess when you pull it out, you canât wait too long. Know your bird.It holds a lot of food, but I donât use it for that. Itâs not a replacement babysitter. If youâre not going to be home for a week, get a sitter. I have so much sympathy for the patron that said their bird passed after leaving it food for a few days and leaving out of town. And I donât want to judge, but please donât rely on a feeder for babysitting.She said in her review that the bigger sized food didnât fit thru the feeder slot as well as she thought. I am grateful for that review because it made me aware of what to look out for. At the same time, when I poured in the food for the first time, I just naturally checked to see if it was coming out, soâ¦. But still, the review made me more aware, so I make sure to use a chop stick to stir up the bottom if Iâm getting paranoid. But with my birds smaller pellets, nothing is an issue. If you have bigger birds and seeds, CHECK BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR BIRD ALONE. But that should be an obvious observation.Best purchase, would buy again if needed.

Good idea, but…
The onlu thing wrong with these feeders is the holes are too big to keep the uneaten seeds for my parakeets and lovebirds from falling throgh. However, they do cut down a lot on the eating mess.

KILLED MY BIRD!
Do not buy if you have a Quaker, conure or love bird. This is designed only for small birds maybe finches or parakeeTs. We had another self feed bowl from Petco but were going to be away for a couple of days so decided to buy this last minute for our conure. Two days later we came back home (not the first time we have been away and left him plenty food and water) he was always fine for a couple but this time our bird was dead. The pellets were stuck when I checked they hadnât been going down and the bird hadnât been able to eat at all ððð we are completely heartbroken and still mourning our little buddy. He crossed over the rainbow and all because we trusted this product! Please do not buy for your bigger parrots

It works pretty well although it looks flimsey. I just have to be careful but it does save me the worry of running out of seed.

Very Beneficial Addition
I wanted to share my experience with this feeder, as I’ve noticed several benefits compared to traditional food bowls. Initially, I was advised against purchasing one by the pet store employee I adopted my parakeets from. However, after using it, I genuinely wish I had gotten it sooner.The bottom tray that catches broken seeds is a thoughtful design feature, and the ability to refill the feeder from outside the cage makes it incredibly convenient. Since switching, I’ve observed that my birds eat less overall, spend more time playing and foraging, and exhibit significantly less territorial behaviorâsomething that was quite common with standard food bowls.I highly recommend this feeder to any parakeet owner. I currently have two in my cage (which is fairly tall), with one placed near the bottom. It’s been a great addition to our setup.

Went from having a scoop of seed shells on the floor every day, to having that scoop gently collected in a neat and clean bin. So easy, so convenient. Works like a charm for 4 messy budgies, and I only have to feed them once a week!

We bought this feeder to help reduce the mess our 4 budgies make with seed husks. This feeder fits nicely on our cage opening, easy to fill and the pullout tray for seed husks works great. Our budgies had no problem figuring it out. Works so good we are buying another one so we have lots of feed when we are away.
