Perfect for small pet litter box!
I have been using this as a litter box substrate for my 8 guinea pigs for about 4 months. This hemp hurd is low dust, hypoallergenic (unlike most wood shavings), EXTREMELY ABSORBENT, and has absolutely eliminated odor. I was really happy with kiln dried aspen prior to trying this product, but am 100% converted to hemp hurd. This would work very well for a chicken yard and as a soft surface for rabbit enclosures.

Hemp bedding
Game-Changer for My CoopI donât usually leave reviews, but I had to share how impressed I am with RentACoopâs Extra-Soft Hemp Bedding. Iâve tried everythingâpine shavings, straw, paper-based beddingâbut nothing compares to this in terms of cleanliness, softness, and odor control. What I love:â Super Absorbent â This stuff soaks up moisture incredibly well. I clean my coop far less often now, and thereâs no soggy mess like with some other bedding types.â Virtually Dust-Free â My chickens and bunnies have super sensitive respiratory systems, and Iâve noticed way less sneezing and dust in the air since switching. Huge win!â Odor Control â I canât believe how well this neutralizes smells. Even on hot days, thereâs no noticeable odor when I open the coop or pet enclosures.â Soft but Durable â Itâs fluffy enough for nesting boxes (my hens LOVE it), yet it doesnât compact or mat down quickly. Even my guinea pigs seem more comfortable.â Multi-Purpose â Iâve used this same bag for my chickens, rabbit, and even as a base for my daughterâs hamster cage. One product, multiple uses = less clutter and more value.Bonus: Itâs compostable and eco-friendly, which makes me feel better about using it in bulk. And speaking of bulkâ300L sounds like a lot (because it is), but it compresses well and stores neatly in my garage. If you’re on the fence: Just get it. It may seem a bit pricier up front than traditional bedding, but it lasts longer and performs WAY better. My coop and small pet cages have never been cleaner or fresher. The only down fall when cleaning you need to were a mask but still great

Expensive but worth it.
This is my favorite chicken bedding. It keeps everything dry and keeps odors down. Itâs expensive, but worth it!

Perfect Bedding for a Clean, Odor-Free Coop!
As a first-time chicken owner, I wanted to ensure my coop was as clean and comfortable as possible for my flock, and this premium hemp bedding has met my expectations so far!The first thing I noticed was how absorbent it isâmoisture is not an issue, and odors are practically nonexistent. Even after a few weeks of use, the coop stays fresh with the deep litter method, which makes my chores much easier to manage in winter. The quality is excellent. I love that itâs eco-friendly, pesticide-free, and produces minimal dust. It feels good knowing Iâm providing a safe, healthy environment for my chickens while also choosing a sustainable product that will eventually make great compost for my garden.Yes, itâs a bit pricier than some alternatives, but the longevity more than makes up for it. A little goes a long way, and I can tell this bale will last me for quite some time.Overall, Iâm thrilled with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a superior bedding solution.

Cost Effective If You Have to Clean Your Coop Every Two Weeks w/Pine Shavings
UPDATE TO 5 STARSI’m giving this product five stars after not being able to buy another bag I tried a different type of hemp and it was a fail. Now I know why it is hard to keep in stock. It really works at sucking up moisture. It’s been weeks since I put down in my coop and there is no odor. I do spot clean up every morning cuz I don’t want my chickens sitting in their own filth. They did nest it in at first as I didn’t think they would use their coop roost. Now that the roost is down at night they sit on it. I have two trays filled with hemp underneath the roosts to catch their waste.I have 5 – 7 week old pullets. Their coop (w/o the run) is 7ftw x 9ftl x 6fth. They are big girls. If I clean the coop every other day the hemp last 8-10 WEEKS with 2 bags. They do not yet have a side yard or ability to free range. I do not do the deep bedding method. 2 bags gives me 2.5-3 inches of bedding. 2 bags of hemp is $152 10 weeks $15. With pine shavings I have to clean the coop out completely after 2 weeks because of the smell. That’s with spot cleaning it every other day. I need 2.5 bags of pine shavings $22 2 = $11. If you break the cost down based upon total clean out it is a reasonable price and I like that I don’t have to clean out the coop every other week using hemp. I also like the hemp because we live in a rural area and this keeps mites, ants, ticks and other bugs out of their coop. I gave it four stars because of the price. I don’t understand why this is so expensive but when you break down the usage cost it’s not so bad and the hemp comes from and is packaged in America

Great Product + Price
I was using another well known brand and had no complaints, other then pricing. This is about $13 cheaper and is the same size. $13 isn’t much savings but when you calculate that I go through about 6 of these a year… that’s $78 in savings. If you’ve not used hemp and the deep liter method you have to try it. It works amazing. It helps keep the chickens warm in the winter because it decomposes naturally. You never have to clean it out except once a year and then straight into the compost bin (and it’s mostly composted by then). You just add a little bit every month or two (I throw it on top and then rake it in a bit). It allows the chicken droppings to decompose naturally which is great for your garden and easier on maintenance. It also keeps the smell down a lot since it’s naturally decomposing. And as I said in the winter it’ll add a LITTLE heat (not a lot) from the decomposing method AND since you have a thick layer that helps keep the cold from coming up from the bottom of your coop. So it’s great all around.
