What’s the recommended on running a Chicken Coop System cycle?

It’s ideal to use one bag for the base in an 8×6 coop, up to 12 nesting boxes. Add one bag for replenishment every 60+ days, turning the material every two weeks.

Can I use my spent/soiled hemp for composting into my field?

Yes, we have many clients who compost soiled hemp. The used hemp can be composted because it does not have the acidity of pine shavings.

Is the black material in our hemp bedding an actual dust?

No, this is called the fines of the hemp hurd. This micro-material is great for absorbing and will not be aerial.

    Value for price
This is a fantastic product. Absorbent, low dust, great to improve odor/moisture control, easy to use, easy to clean up (I use a vacuum or broom) super easy on the allergies… all around great product. You get good mileage out of it too which gets good value for the money spent. I consider this product an investment in my animals’ health. It’s worth purchasing quality bedding.

Happy chickens and easy coop care!
Have purchased this twice and have had great product experience. We use this for the deep litter method for our coop, add 2 bags in 8×8 coop, rake it around every couple of months, then add another bag about 6-8 months later. Our coop has no odor and we clean it out maybe every year or 2, starting over with another 2 bags and using the old stuff around the yard for garden and trees. Hope the quality and price stays the same and we will continue to be repeat customers (:

    Great for my chickens
I highly recommend this for chicken coups! We use this all the time and I think our chickens are healthier as this doesn’t create dust and absorbs smell and their waste way better than pine shavings. It is a bit expensive but you don’t have to change this as much as you do shavings.

    Smells amazing!
This is great stuff! My chickens seem to like it and it smells amazing! If I had known how nice this smelled, I would have been using it from the get go. So far, it is not holding any moisture, so that’s great!

    Musty scent
Updated review:The company replied to my question, where I asked if the hemp bedding is supposed to feel slightly humid and smell musty. The reply said, no, it’s supposed to be very dry, told the bag I got might have gotten wet in shipping or delivery, and I was offered a new bag. I contacted the company by email to accept the offer, provided my address and a thanks. I received the new bag yesterday afternoon, and opened the bag and used some of the hemp bedding in one of my chicks brooders. This one felt completely dry and had no musty odor. It doesn’t have the great scent others have rave about, but it’s very good bedding that my chicks like. Seems to be less dusty than other beddings. I’ll buy it again, but afraid to get it on Amazon. I suspect that the bag I got from Amazon may have been stored in a place with too much humidity and the bedding absorbed a lot of moisture causing it to start to growl mold and smell musty. Because of convenience I might order it again from Amazon to give it another chance, but if that bag comes also feeling humid and smelling musty, I’ll return it and ask for a refund. That 1st bedding I used on 2 chick brooders and since I’ve noticed some of my chicks sneezing, which might be caused by mold spores from the musty bedding.Anyway, because of the great customer service and the good bag of hemp bedding, I’m changing my rating from 2 stars to 4. I would give it 5 if the product was more affordable. My original review:This is the 1st bag I buy of much more expensive Hemp bedding. Been using Aspen Wood Shavings which cost about 45% the price of Hemp bedding. Read so many raving reviews of hemp bedding, mentioning how good it smells and how long it keeps the coop free of bad odor, which is why I decided to try it. I went for this brand because it’s about $4-5 cheaper than the other brands here. Got a brand new, completely sealed bag, so when I opened it I was surprised by the slight humid feel of the hemp shavings, and the unpleasant musty scent coming from it. I didn’t know if that’s normal, so I used it anyway in my chick brooders, so can’t return it. But not satisfied with this hemp bedding. Might try a different brand of I can find it on sale.

Less expensive but lower quality too
I changed to this brand of hemp bedding as it was cheaper than the one I had been buying, and now I know why. The pieces of hemp are very variable with a lot of larger chunks that get caught in my poop sifter. This makes clean up harder in my coop and/or more hemp will be added to the compost pile so I will be replacing it sooner. Not a savings after all. It does have a pleasant woody smell and fairly low dust. Those are the positives.

    Hemp Bedding for the WIN
Unless something better comes along, I will always be using hemp bedding in my chicken coop. It has made all the difference in smell and length of time between cleaning. The process is easy and being able to get a huge bag of it delivered to my door makes it even easier. I have searched around and this brand seems to be the best value.
