This is a more “gritty” or “less fluffy” form of our regular Tree Fern which holds less water and allows more air to enter the mix. It is absolutely fantastic for orchids and aroids as it is both water retentive but also allows a huge amount of air to circulate around the roots. The gritty formula does not hold as much water and allows more air movement into the mixture. Tree Fern fiber can be used straight out of the bag of blended into your existing mix. This product is supplied to us by the premium distributor of New Zealand Tree Fern. It is completely natural and NEVER treated with any chemicals whatsoever. It is also sustainably harvested which was of utmost importance to us while sourcing.
A more “gritty”, or “twiggy” form of tree fern when compared to our other listing which is super light and fluffy
Product is graded to be free of all debris and unusable chunks, making repotting as easy as possible
Outstanding for Orchids, Aroid and Tropicals- A superior potting medium for Phalaenoposis, Phragmipedium, Dendrobium, Paphiopedilum, Oncidium, Lycaste, Anthuriums, Philodendrons
Capillary Action- Tree Fern Substrate has a natural wicking action that sucks up water like a sponge and evenly distributes it which prevents dry zones and soggy wet zones in your mix This allows for even watering and nutrient uptake necessary for strong and healthy growth.
Moisture Control- Locks in moisture to maintain an ideal moisture level without becoming oversaturated, while still allowing essential air circulation around the roots. Please note this blend does not hold as much water as our other Tree Fern listing
Premium 100% New Zealand Tree Fern is softer and more porous than South and Central American alternatives. It should not to be confused with what others might call Orchid dirt or Orchid soil. Tree Fern is a soft, fluffy, orchid growing media that is responsibly harvested and fully sustainable.
Reptile Terrariums/Vivariums- Our Debris Free medium is perfect for living enclosures. Our Tree Fern is 100% natural and never treated with any chemicals Makes a 100% organic reptile bedding and encourages burrowing, increases humidity, and acts as a natural odor eliminator. For smaller or more sensitive retpiles and amphibians, please consider our other Tree Fern listing which is considerably softer and fluffier.

Quality is superior!!
Such good quality! I really love how itâs not dirty and my plants are thriving. I may try the non-gritty one in the near future.

Good stuff.
This and the soft fluffy one works great with Fluval stratum for plants that need a nice boost to root growth. I would not use this alone for propagating not that you can’t. I would strongly advise not to mix it with PON either. I used a more expensive and well known brand and mixed it with PON. The TFF rotted leaving a stinky mess that was difficult to separate.

Nice small bag but filled up at least lol
Even though this is expensive and small it’s very good lol I usually get mine from the small business but I figured I’d try this one I will have to say even though it’s small the quantity is better than some of the options on here

Good quality
My rare tropical plants love it. I wish it was a bigger bag.

High Quality, Great Results
This stuff has saved my Hoya and Anthurium! It’s perfect to add to a chunky aroid mix and Hoya luve it with some perlite. This is a high-quality amendment, and the price reflects that. But it’s beautiful, premium quality, tree fern fiber and the bag is with the cost, in my opinion. My plants have taken off in growth since I moved them to a tree fern substrate. Great quality, increased growth, priced Fair for the size. What more could I ask for? I’ll keep ordering and rationing this!

Just ok
Was hoping the pieces would be small. When I think of gritty, I’m thinking particles that aren’t twigs. I used this for my moss pole and like that it won’t change its pH over time like sphagnum would. I just wish it didn’t have 2-3″ sized sticks in it. The value is too steep and will probably look elsewhere.
