Super Cute Helmet but Geared toward Square Headed Pups. Fits very Large!
This is a super cute helmet with an eye shield that appears well made and sturdy. I’m impressed with the attention to detail. It’s a lightweight plastic but has a generous 1/4″ moderately firm foam liner, but it is not removable for cleaning. The plastic can be easily wiped clean. The rivets are screwed in place beneath the liner. There was one rivet at the very back which was not covered by the liner, but the screws are actually recessed in the helmet, so no worries regarding it rubbing. It is held in positioned on the head by the dog’s ears and then secured with a Velcro strap. There is a clip to slide the end of the Velcro through, but it is difficult to get the Velcro through it as it is. A simple fix would be to cut the end at an angle with a pair of scissors. The Velcro strap leaves plenty of room for adjustments and our dog ate treats and drank while wearing it, so it does not seem to impede swallowing. The eye shield simply slides up and down into place. It is a little stiff, but if it was looser, it would work its way down when you wanted it up. Unfortunately, the eye shield is not removable, but does look good up or down. I like that it has a wider smooth bridge where it fits over the muzzle. It also does not sit too close to the eye and appears to have good ventilation as our dog had it on for over 10 minutes without any clouding or fogging. I really thought this would be another cute accessory for our dog who only has one eye. We take the dogs with us when we go out on the side by side and make stops to let them run and play. This one needs the eye protection from weeds and branches. It would work well, but unfortunately, it is too big. We measured head circumference at 14.5″ which meant it should have fit, but it is much too large for her. She is a 20# Corgi mix. I believe the design itself is more suited to square headed dogs such as boxers and bullies than thinner and pointer muzzled canines. How stinkin’ cute is this?!?! My little doggo is about 15 pounds, and it really fits pretty well. There is padding inside for the top of the head, and it secured with a Velcro chin strap. The visor can be raised, if pref8, and there would still be room for goggles. Although they are plastic, the visor is crystal clear. All parts are attached securely; even the metal pointed studs are attached individually with screws. It is good quality for a dog helmet, and the cost is a reasonable. Will she wear it? She might, with a little patience.
