For maximum protection against squirrels and comfort for your favorite birds, try the Perky-Pet Squirrel-Be-Gone Max Bird Feeder. This outdoor bird feeder includes our patented Flexports, which offer 5-in-1 benefits for optimal feeding and bird safety. The unique design is 4X more shake-resistant than standard ports, resulting in less seed waste. The design also allows birds to feed at an optimal position outside of the port, offering better visibility so they feel safer and stay longer. Each feeding station features a ladder-style perch to accommodate a wide variety of bird sizes. This squirrel proof bird feeder boasts multiple great features for defense against squirrels. The weight-activated perch system supports birds but not squirrels; when squirrels try to access the perches, the ports close off. The new and improved Sure-Lock cap prevents squirrels from lifting the lid, and the metal frame discourages chewing around the ports. For 100% bird feeder squirrel proof placement, hang the feeder with at least 18 inches of clearance on all sides, ensuring squirrels can’t reach it. Ideal for wild bird feeders, this is perfect for those looking for squirrel proof bird feeders for outside. Try these innovative bird feeders for outdoors hanging and enjoy seeing birds thrive

Customers say
Customers find the bird feeder well-built and appreciate its large capacity of 4lbs, with birds enjoying it right away. However, the squirrel protection and functionality receive mixed reviews – while some say squirrels hate it, others find it ineffective. Moreover, durability is a concern as the flexports break after a year, and birds don’t come to it as expected.

Great, mostly squirrel proof bird feeder
I wanted a bird feeder to attract and watch colorful local birds, but we have a lot of squirrels in our neighborhood, and they are known to chew up everything (patio furniture, patio lights, pots, etc.), so I wanted something that would stand up to abuse. This is overall easy to fill, the lid is secure once you tighten the wire, and has lasted pretty well. I like that this is a large size and holds a lot of birdseed, so I don’t have to fill it up as often. The lid is metal as is the lower piece on which the birds sit, and I haven’t seen any damage from squirrels chewing. The mechanism that lowers and covers the openings works well overall, and the only issue I’ve seen is that the little rubber ‘valves’ that cover the holes wear out pretty quickly from being pecked and chewed, which allows seed to flow out more easily when you fill it or when the wind shakes the feeder. I think the squirrels have realized this, so they don’t seem to chew on the feeder, but they do shake it from above, which causes seed to fall on the ground and then they eat it. Overall it works pretty well and is affordable for what I need, and the birds really seem to like it.

A real squirrel proof system
If you are looking to stop the squirrels from raiding your feeder in combination with the 43″ MIXXIDEA pole mounted plant hook also available on Amazon, this is your feeder. The squirrels have tried to get to the feeder but have given up. The hook mounted to a pole away from trees makes it too difficult for the squirrels to jump and find the landing surface that they can hold on to without closing the feeder, so they give up. I have only been using this a month, but it has been a great success for me.

Save your money – Definitely NOT Squirrel Proof
If you are looking for a squirrel proof solution, save your money, this isnât the solution. I took a picture after the squirrels dumped the feeder again this morning. They ran off when I tried to get them in the photo.A couple of thoughts to share, especially after the money spent.1). The feeder is too inviting of a target. There is so much food in the hopper, that it literally acts as a squirrel magnet. They will obsessively find a way to defeat it because of the reward.2). It took less than 24 hrs for squirrels to access all the feed. When I went to find additional guidance, I found directions that it must be mounted > 18â from the tree/pole to be effective. So I took down the first $20 mounting bracket and went to Loweâs. There I found a cast iron arm and circular mount. That a is 24â from the tree. Another $30, same result3) the weighted door/close system fails because itâs not weather resistant. I put this up in august 2022, and gave up on it the first attempt after squirrels dumped it everyday I filled it. I decided to try again this May and noticed the door sliding system didnât move as freely as when I first mounted it. I donât see anyway to protect it from the elements, so after just 9 months, Iâd say life expectancy is very short.I wish someone wrote a review like this before I put it in the cart. Maybe it will save someone else the same time and expense.

Great feeder with one flaw
This feeder works very well at deterring squirrels. I have it on a hook about 18 inches from the wall of the house (see photo), which they can, of course, climb. Some may have tried to get to the seed by jumping on a perch, but even if they could hold on, they cannot get to the seed. In any case, I have seen none try. Once in a while, one gets on top, but the body of the feeder is too long for them to dangle down to the seed ports. They either scramble back up or fall off.The birds may take a while to figure out how to get to the seed and may, as did mine at first, prefer other feeders in the yard. This feeder has, however, become a popular spot (see photo). The feeder seems to be very sturdy, and it is easy to fill. The flaw is the in the rubber flaps that cover the ports. These are nice because they keep seed from spilling out. Over time, however, they wear down. Now, as the birds feed, more seed spills out. I anticipate that these will wear down so much that seed will spill out when I refill the feeder.I wish those flaps were replaceable because the rest of the feeder will last much longer than they do.

Laugh at the squirrels attempts!! ð
See a lot of reviews on this that arenât so favorable however, I went through five different birdfeeders and then found this one and itâs a very good birdfeeder. The only flaw is the feeder ports deteriorate to nothing in about eight or nine months and then you start spilling birdseed out of the ports when you refill it and the bird start pecking at it. You can see it falling to the ground. The ports are $11 to buy four new ones to replace so overall thatâs not too bad every eight months to a year spending $11 to replace those ports, I laughed, watching the squirrels try to get at the seed and were unsuccessful and they finally gave up and eat the seed that falls below it from the birds, pecking and engorging and wasting some of the food, but they eat most of it. One of the benefits is I have a few huge sunflowers growing in my garden now ha ha good birdfeeder the top does not keep the seed completely dry if itâs windy, rainy but they still eat it and when it gets empty every few times I will take it and dump the residual seed from the very bottom which they canât get at kind of a poor design where the base should have a little plastic insert that raises the floor up to where the ports are so you donât have an inch of wasted seed that gets old and stale. Other than that, itâs the best birdfeeder I have found and the squirrels get super frustrated because they absolutely cannot access the seed where some of these designs that are similar have a range shield lower, where the squirrels can grab onto and hang upside down and eat the seed not this one this is the best design and worth the money

Good…for a while
For the first several months, the squirrels were stymied by this feeder. Somehow, they finally got the top off and chewed the plastic brace at the top of the hopper. It no longer works. Frustrating.

So far the pesky squirrel has tried and failed at eating the bird seed. It sits on top of the feeder trying to figure out what it’s next course of action is. So the overall length and design is spot on.Tried other squirrel proof feeders and failed until nowWell thought out.

These bird feeders do keep the squirrels out. I made the mistake of hanging them on the deck railing where the squirrels discovered they could just dangle half on the railing and steal seeds. That didnât last long, I relocated them to a spot with no surface beneath them and now the squirrels can only get the discarded seeds the birds throw away! ð such fun watching their antics!

I bought this in the hopes that it would prevent squirrels from using it. However, I have found that squirrels are able to use it by leaning out of the tree and reaching their hands in through the portals. The reason they can do this is because the birds very easily and quickly removed the plastic that keeps the seeds in. This means the squirrels and larger birds very easily reach in, pull out the peanuts they want and drop everything else onto the ground beneath the feeder.Otherwise it is a very sturdy feeder. The section that moves down to stop the squirrels from reaching in does work, but once the squirrels figured out they didn’t need to do that, it wasn’t that great. It holds a lot of seeds. It’s just that they all fall out.
