The Penn Plax Action Air Shipwreck Aquarium Ornament is an exciting way to aerate your tank. This ornament authentically replicates a sunken ship that has broken into two pieces and lays on the ocean floor waiting to be discovered. Once attached to your air pump this fish tank ornament has moving masts that sway as if they were caught in the water’s current along with a small lifeboat that moves back and forth. Steady streams of small bubbles rise from the holes in the ship for even more visual appeal while providing the necessary oxygen to the tank. Aquarium ornament is made of quality resin and hand painted; measuring 9.5 inches across and 4.7 inches high by 2.5 inches deep. Boat can be displayed as one piece or the parts can be separated and positioned on an angle, over rocks, or anywhere desired in your tank. Air pump, tubing, and gang valve not included.

Customers say

Customers find the bubbler ornament visually appealing, with one noting how it moves back and forth in the tank. The product works well after adjusting the airflow, though some report it only functions for about 15 minutes. While the quality is good, customers report durability issues with the chain breaking while underwater and the product being too light to stay at the bottom. The bubble size receives mixed feedback, with some loving the bubbles while others report the bubbles stopping working. Value for money opinions are divided, with some finding it decent for the price while others consider it a waste of money.

Glitter used for jewels, but easy to remove
I bought this little bubbler as an ornament in my 300 gallon fish tank. It’s a cute little addition to my tank and it doesn’t seem to frighten my fish (school of silver dollars who are known to be skittish). I buried it partially in the sand so my giant fish wouldn’t knock it over, and to make the lid open and close, I just played with the amount of air flow going into the ornament. Very easy to adjust it so works properly. My only complaint, and it’s a little one, is that the “jewels” was a bunch of glitter glued onto the platform under the lid. I didn’t want to risk my curious tetras consuming any glitter so I just removed it. The ornament was actually fairly simple to take apart, soak in warm water, and scrub off the glitter with a toothbrush. Took a little time but worth it for this cute addition to my tank!

    Betta safe; a bit flimsy
It does not come with a bubbler. I attached one and the lid doesn’t close, just stays open while the bubbler is on. The chest isn’t that heavy, so I had to bury it well into the gravel lest it float up. It seems a little flimsy. Nothing broke, but the pearl necklace shifted a bit while I was trying to sink it into the gravel and the lid can open at a funky angle if you’re not careful. Overall, the manufacture looks great and feels cheap. It’s adorable. The betta seems interested in it. It fits nicely into a 5-gallon tank without being overwhelming. It’s more a key piece of side decoration. Most importantly, nothing seems sharp or jagged or in any way a danger to the betta’s long and delicate fins. It being betta safe was the most important feature for me.

Cute, but no way to stick it to the floor, so it floats away.
This is a really cute concept, the air bubbles up through the barrel of gold in the lid opens and closes. But there’s no way to actually adhere it to the floor of your fish tank! It does not come with suction cups, and the plastic peg teeth Have no way to ground it under the substrate of your tank. It’s very light and it just floats away.

Animation works well after noting a few details
Nice animation for the tank, works well once you have everything correct. For one, make sure the base of the skeleton will toggle freely back and forth. Sometimes the airline feeding the base is shipped too far in and interferes with the toggle movement. If so, just pull it out a little so the base toggles freely. In the aquarium, it has to be fairly level to allow bubbles to alternate sides for correct movement. Some said it is flimsily built, but it has to be pretty lightweight and loose to operate correctly in water. Also need to be able to adjust air flow to it. Overall it is a good addition to the aquarium.

    Not impressed
It’s a nice decoration, but it was light and hard to keep at the bottom of my tank.

Deep sea diver in my aquarium
This aquarium ornament is made of plastic and I was able to keep it from floating up by stabilizing it with sand and stones while keeping it looking natural. It looks very good and fish didn’t seem to mind it which was replaced after ship wrecked piece became brittle and broken. This is not a large piece but is a perfect size for my 31 gallon aquarium. You can see how it looks as I included a photo.

    A Favorite From My Childhood
When I had my very first aquarium as a little girl, this was one of the first decorative items we baought for it. I have always been fascinated by the idea of natural meeting artificial in motion. So for both this reason and nostalgia, I bought another for my “big person’s” aquarium.I am aware of several complaints about this item, but I also know that the user does need to give it some adustments. This time, I actually made a number of modifications for both mechanical and aesthetic purposes. Fisrt, I removed the tiny airline from the bottom and set the mill next to a “wall of bubbles” — just at the edge so that enough bubbles could turn the wheel, but not so that it was overwhemed and would fall over, etc. Second, I used Fluorish Glue* by Seachem to attach the “legs” to a square of 1/16″ Plexiglass (make sure legs are all level — I used an Exacto knife to trim them up.) (*Fluorish Glue is a gel form of cyano-acrylate just like “Super Glue”. If you don’t use the Seachem brand, be sure to still get a GEL, otherwise it is extremely messy.) Third, I glued rounded river pebbles, 1/4-3/4 diameter, onto the Plexiglass base, except where they might interfere with bubbling action. Steps 2 and 3 help keep the rice mill in place by adding weight, and allowing me to “dig it into” the substrate a bit. This also is effective in preventing problems with the natural digging instincts of many bottom fishes. Fourth, I found some old plastice grass-like leaves, trimmed them up, and glued them among the rocks of the base. The first photo is before the modifications (bubbles are difficult to see). Second photo is with modifications, but before returning to aquarium.I hope my notes and suggestions are helpful to anyone else interested in this nifty little treasure! Thanks.

The piece I received does not work. The dog is supposed to move up and down but mine just remains in one place depending on the air flow.
