Make your old window or wall air conditioner smarter
In my apartment I have a very old window air conditioner installed through the wall. Unfortunately, the a/c is so old that the thermostat knob goes from 1 to 8, and even when it reaches the set temp the super loud blower fan keeps running nonstop. It doesn’t help that the a/c is in a corner behind the couch just a few inches off the ground. Since my landlord won’t let me upgrade it, I started looking for a way to control the a/c without having to keep turning it on and off all afternoon to save money and keep the noise down.I spent a lot of time researching many different products, and even considered getting a wall thermostat and trying to figure out a way to wire it to control an outlet using a contactor but that seemed like a lot of work. Finally I came across the Meross Smart Temperature Controller, it does everything I was looking for and it even has wifi and works with Google Home and Apple Home! All I had to do to set it up was unplug my window a/c from the wall and plug it into the Meross, and then plug the Meross into the wall. I had to set my a/c to the coldest setting, and now use the Meross to turn it on and off. The box included a good-length wire for the thermometer, which allows me to fix it against the wall away from where the cold air blows.Connecting it to the Meross app was super easy. I’ve struggled with a handful of other brand’s smart devices and getting them connected to the wifi or their respective apps. With the Meross, everything worked right the first time and it went through the steps so quickly that I was actually worried I missed something the first time â I reset everything and started over just to make sure I didn’t miss anything but I hadn’t.The app and smart home connections allow me to control the Meross as if it is a thermostat, which is perfect for me. I can turn it on and off, set the temperature I want, and it even has the ability to set a schedule for the temperature. I like that it allows me to control the “differential” also known as the “deadband”, which is how many degrees it allows the temperature to get from the setpoint before it turns the a/c back on. Since I have my a/c connected to it, the compressor delay is important to me to make sure I don’t damage my landlord’s a/c.While I didn’t expect it before I was setting it up, I was delighted to see that the app shows me how much electricity is being and has been used. It allows you to put in your cost per kilowatt hour and can then show you the cost to operate whatever you have connected. In my case, it shows me just how inefficient and expensive this old a/c unit is to operate in this uninsulated apartment. If you have an old window or wall a/c unit that uses physical knobs to control it and you want something to make it a bit smarter and more efficient, the Meross Smart Temperature Controller is the easiest plug and play option I found on the market!

Very handy and accurate
Update: I have tried using the buttons on the device again and they are not difficult as I originally experienced. While they donât respond as fast as something like a keyboard, they are more than sufficient. With a little patience, they work fine for programming. I still do prefer the Meross app, but thatâs just me. I have updated the rating to five stars since this is a more a personal preference than a fault of the item.So I have been using this for several weeks now. Tested it with two different applications: controlling a heated blanket for brewing beer and controlling a dorm sized fridge used for aging cheese. Both worked as expected and kept the temperature at or very near where I wanted it.Pros:* Super easy to set up with Apple Home. This is a huge factor for me as I prefer to have one spot to view/configure all devices. So much easier than multiple apps. I tried the Meross app, and while it worked fine and I was able to use it easily, I still prefer Apple Home.* Accurate. When I checked the temperature reported by this unit to the temperature reported by my reliable old thermometers, it always fell within about 1/2 degrees or so. That is as accurate as anything I need.* It looks remember the last settings if it loses power. Very nice for midwest weather since we have a lot of power outages (or at least short power interruptions)* Can support up to 15 amps at 120VAC. Plenty to control either my heating blanket or mini fridge.* Looks good and has a 5 foot power cord and nearly 7 foot temperature probe cordCons:Really, the only somewhat major con that I found was that the buttons on the unit didn’t respond quickly, making it somewhat awkward to program. For me, this isn’t a huge deal because I prefer to configure and control this remotely via Apple Home (which worked fantastic). However, if you’re using this as a stand alone unit with no remote control, it takes some patience to get it set up.Overall, this is a great little unit for my uses. Setup is simple via Apple Home or the Meross app. Controlling the unit is equally as simple using either method. A little difficult when using the buttons on the unit, but not a big deal for most. This is probably not the cheapest option out there, but it is for sure the easiest and most universal that I’ve used. If you have a need to control anything based on temperature, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

Never knew I needed it until I had it!
I’ve used many Meross products over the years, and they are all excellent. This product is no exception. Like all Meross products, it is easy to use, quick to set up, reliable and dependable over time, and very helpful in day to day use. The HomeKit setup process is so simple, and you can also use the Meross app too for even more functionality. On top of all the HomeKit functions, the Meross app allows you to quickly and easily change wifi networks, update firmware, and see even more in-depth analytics from the device. Of course, you can also set schedules and routines from the Meross app, as well as HomeKit or any other smart home ecosystem. I live in a very hot state in the USA so I set my Meross temperature controller up with a fan so it will automatically turn on the fan to cool down the room if it hits a certain temperature. And it will automatically turn off once it gets below the set temperature to save energy. Really cool device that is a huge help for my home. Also helps me to save money from running the AC unit all day too. Overall it’s a great value and I highly recommend it!
