I got a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet (rare!)
This little feeder has been out for a week in March. And of course, even though I put it pretty close to the existing feeders, it took this long before someone warmed up to the idea of approaching the strange object to get a snack.I thought it was a dirty goldfinch, but instead it was a bird I never heard of before. eBird categorizes it as “rare!”So, five stars today for this feeder attracting a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, the smallest bird after hummingbirds, and it was eating “Kaytee Seed & Suet No Mess Peanut 10 Pounds.” Being so tiny explains why it fit nicely on the perch. A bluebird sat on the other perch, but I haven’t seen the bluebird eat from from this feeder, just sit. Side by side comparison, it became clear how tiny the Kinglets are. I’ll update when I see a bluebird actually eating from this feeder.Certainly, the invasive European starlings won’t be able to use the perches at all.I’ve been trying to attract bluebirds, which are all over central PA, but have been mostly unsuccessful. Probably invasive European starlings keep the bluebirds away from my previous feeders. I’ll let you know if & when I see a bluebird eating from this little feeder. It would be glorious, finally a bluebird feeder that thwarts starlings. I’ll let you know.The Kinglets probably don’t eat a lot; lol. It would make more sense to fill up the feeder maybe only ¼ or â . My first time out, I filled it almost to the top, and I’ll certainly have to throw out a lot of old, remaining food after a couple of weeks, and then only refill the feeder partially.Update, male and female house finches sitting and comfortably are eating from this feeder.And I’ve never seen a starling even attempt to perch on this feeder.New camera, no optical zoom, needs returning. Shows 4″ Kinglet with dirty yellowish greenish body. It didn’t pose to show its black and white stripes on top of its behind. Cellphone camera 50 feet away with small clip-on monocular, all on a wobbly tripod.Update: The first Goldfinch of the season is feeding fine on the little feeder, which I consider a highlight. More Ruby Crowned Kinglets, which are just migrating through, according to the Internet, and they wouldn’t lie about something like that. Some silly sparrows successfully snacking. I’m not impressed by sparrows because they were everywhere in NYC.A male and female house finch eating, on the two opposite perches, so romantic. Arriving together, leaving together.The bluebirds like to tease me by perching on top of the shepard’s hook to peruse the lawn, but not dropping down to the feeder to eat. Sometimes they go for a suet cake on a different shepard’s hook.Continuing to have NO starlings at this feeder, only on the ground under the feeder, lol.Wow, I’m blessed with more goldfinches than I’ve ever been in the midst of, thanks to this feeder. They arrived in central PA towards the beginning of April. I don’t know if they’re going to migrate away when it gets hotter (and hotter). Romance isn’t dead; sometimes a male Goldfinch on one perch and a female on the other. Same with the house finches.Three male goldfinches now. I don’t know what that’s about. Two on the perches and one waiting on the seed cake. I need sunglasses, they’re so bright.Still getting Kinglets. The Internet says they’re just passing through to wherever they migrate.Going to need a parabolic shield to keep the squirrel out of the seed cake, which should last longer than 3 days. Expecting the shield to accumulate lots of bird waste, but what can you doo.

This feeder is very well made but did not work well for meal worms, returned it and purchased a different one.

Waste of money
Perches are too short for bluebirds and the slots are too narrow for bluebirds to reach the mealworms. Since the perch is too short to allow the birds to turn toward the slotted opening the birds had to hover to even try to eat and they donât like hovering. Once the birds ate those few larva that were initially reachable upon filling the birds gave up. No additional larva were reachable. I only hope they return now that iâve abandoned this feeder. Spend your money somewhere else.

Adorable feeder, questionable design
The bluebirds enjoy it *however* there may be room for improvement in the design. There is void space between the feeding holes and the bottom of the feeder where the birds canât get to the food. This teases them but also allows the food to potentially spoil faster since theyâre not able to get to it. Also itâs very lightweight and gets blown around easily. It seems the perch area could be longer, too. But I do like the blue color, very cute!

The birds took to this immediately. Itâs very easy to both fill and clean. It has been through some tough weather, but still looks brand new.

Awkward, Poor Design
Waste of money. Our birds struggle to perch on the rests because they are way too short. The holes to dispense food are too far down and they have to arch their necks to try to eat. It pains me to watch them struggle! If your birds aren’t Houdini-like contortionists, I would pass on this poorly designed “feeder.” I wish the hubs hadn’t thrown out the box.***I’d like to add that I was contacted by the seller after this review and am very pleased with their commitment to customer service.
