Delightful and beautifully written.
What a heartwarming story about the never ending love between a rescue dog and her âmom.â Having had multiple rescues throughout my life, I can honestly say there are few things in life more rewarding than the love of a dog. Thank you for adopting and not shopping!

My first book about a dog
Thank you for this wonderful heart warming story! I loved it a lot ! Reminded me of our dog, Lucy of15 years. What Kat went thorough at beginning is terribly heart wrenching and I was delighted to read about the wonderful adventures and great life Kat had ended up having.

Typical dog story
Too violent in beginning. Nice that fog was rescued and life she had but the history which was made up didnât need to be so violent. Could have been left unknown

A great book for dog lovers!
A wonderful. heartwarming book for dog lovers. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about this very special dog and her caring, devoted owners. Written through the eyes of Kat. After reading it you just might want to rush out and rescue a dog yourself!

emotional in a good way
The writing is so easy to zip right through and it is a page turner. You want to know what happens next. I like that the author left the end of Katâs life to the reader. You know how much love there was between Alyson, Dave and fur baby Kat. Totally enjoyed a light read.

A truly inspiring story of animal rescue
KAT THE DOG is a most inspiring story of what dogs rescued from the streets have gone through and the work it takes to place them in loving homes. The dogs most likely come in starving, ill, and dirty after living on the streets. These dogs have fears from their lives before being adopted that must be understood to make the dogs feel comfortable in a new home. Alyson is able to touch on many of Kats fears, abandonment, poor treatment, starvation, and being left with unknown people. The story is so interesting especially if you are an animal lover. It presents ways people can help every day without actually adopting a pet if you’re not able to. Support local shelters and rescue centers, volunteer, foster an animal or feed animals you know are hungry and take them to a shelter. So read this beautiful book and learn how you can help animals get a new home and a better way of life.

Kat the dog
At first glance, this story is charming. But, diving deeper in, there is misinformation and several concerning things. This book is in the nonfiction section of books. So, unless Kat learned how to type and talk, there is no reason for the author to write this as if it were Katâs words. As close as we can get to our furry friends, there is no way we can think like a dog. Do try to do so is presumptuous.Even with all the vets and groomers Kat saw no one talked about Lyme disease or how to prevent it. Nor is it common knowledge for the humans in their country. After Kat got several ticks in the double or triple digits, no one tested her for Lyme, or âtickfeverâ as they say in that country. When the author contracted Lyme she was treated with an antibiotic that is used for typhoid. She talked about one of the side effects which are nightmares. What she was not aware of was the more permanent and life threatening side affects of this antibiotic. There are safer treatments out there that are just as or more affective.Eventually Kat gets to sleep in the authorâs bed. Part of the story mentions that only the author and Kat sleep in the bed. Also as part of the story, the author is married and the husband and her seem to get along well. That husband and wife sleep separately is private and should not be shared as part of a story of a rescued dog. Because now it is common knowledge for everyone reading this book.If this story is meant to be a draw for rescuing a dog, it is filled with misinformation. The likelihood of anyone finding a $4,000.00 dog to adopt just is not going to happen. A dog that had been abused as badly as Kat would not adapt so easily. Besides not being potty trained, she would not take so easily to a leash and would not allow a harness. She would not be comfortable in a house, if she had never been in one. Finally, I find the practice of keeping chickens and rabbits as pets, then eating them all, highly disturbing and distasteful. âShould we have John or Mary for dinner tomorrow â is just not within the realm of what I think is okay.

sweet but not sugary
This lovely memoir from the voice of Kat the dog is a delightful take on an old theme. We like to imagine the thoughts of our four legged friends, Alyson blended the believable dog behaviors with a wry sense of Kats imagined thoughts. The only issue I had was I thought Katâs disapproval of some of the smells that I think she probably would actually love (she did get the rotten fish right!) were more of Alysonâs feelings than Kats!A great story!

I found this story far more about the writer and Portugal – with a little of the dog’s tale thrown in.

I absolutely loved reading this book, after losing our first Spanish water dog, we adopted another who had been rescued, so reading this book was like an insight into our lives. A great read if you’re thinking of adopting a dog, it makes you realise what a difference you can make.

I really enjoyed reading this book , itâs beautiful and heart warming ! It does have some sad parts but I think the happy parts far outweigh the sad parts and the book left me feeling happy when I got to the end . I like that itâs a real story and love that we see everything through Kats eyes as itâs written from her perspective , which means there are some very funny moments as we see things from her point of view when she doesnât quite ââ get ââ what her humans are up to ! This book confirms that there is nothing quite like a dogs love , that they love us unconditionally and we love our dogs more than anything else â¦.. I think Kat really landed on her four paws when she found Alyson and Dave and although she had a terrible start in life she certainly ended up being one of the most lucky dogs ever ! She definitely has the best life and her forever humans and forever home are the best ! I love my little dog SO much and Iâd like to think she loves me as much as I love her . Oh and I love the photos from the photo album â¦. Itâs nice to see the pictures that go along with the story . All the pictures are lovely but I especially love the ââ chasing the seagulls ââ picture â¦. What an amazing photo ! Iâve probably waffled on for far too long but I honestly really enjoyed Kats story and lastly Iâd like to thank Alyson and Dave for sharing with us their amazing life with Kat in beautiful Portugal ! Thanks so much !
