About Josh’s Frogs House Fly Pupae

Musca domestica, the common House Fly

Josh’s Frogs House Fly Pupae contain a healthy overcount, as not all pupae will hatch into flies. The pupae are packaged in a small deli cup with wheat bran.

How to Feed:

House Flies are fast! To make House Flies easier to move, place them in the fridge for a few minutes. This will slow them down enough that they will not fly out when the container lid is open. Shake the House Flies into your enclosure and watch your reptile chase after their tasty treat! Any House Flies leftover should be removed or else they may breed and lay eggs in your enclosure.

How to Hatch:

When you receive your House Flies they will be in pupae form. The pupae should be stored in the fridge until you are ready to contain and feed off flies. The longer House Fly pupae are in the fridge the lower the numbers of flies will hatch out.

To hatch flies, simply place the pupae in a container at room temperature. Flies should emerge in 3-7 days.

Try to use all pupae within a couple weeks.

Enrichment food, stimulates pet Treat as well as a suitable food source Adults 8-12 millimeters, large enough for many pets Great for reptiles, amphibians, fish, and birds

Customers say

Customers find the fly pupae to be good quality feeders, though the hatching rate receives mixed feedback – while some report great hatching rates, others mention not a single fly hatched. Moreover, the flies’ lifespan is concerning, with reports of them dying within days, and customers consider the price point unreasonable at $10 for 4 flies. Additionally, the size receives mixed reviews, with one customer noting they’re perfect for jumping spiders.

    Groggy Food!
We had a wild frog hideaway in our home instead of hibernating outside. We would spot him up in the kitchen on a beam, and then he’d disappear. I ordered a little cage for him and went online to find him some chow. I decided to order this product in 50 count, laughing as I actually purchased flies (we live on a farm! I never thought I’d actually WANT flies!). The order arrived fast and one fly was waiting to enter froggy-dom. Our little friend was ever thankful for it! Looking at the directions to hatch these little flies, I seen that I should have bought something for that as well and just set the little container of fly eggs near froggy-dom. Today I got home from work (one day after they were delivered) and to my excitement a bunch of flies hatched overnight! Being a bit tired, I just opted to carefully open the container the little flies were in and drop it into froggy-dom. There’s at least 20 that hatched and an abundance more. I just added stuff for the flies to eat right in the frog cage. Our little buddy has been having a blast. I know they hibernate in the winter typically, but usually they don’t stow away indoors. We plan to release him in the garage come spring- but for now this guy is taking an easy winter. I’m unsure how often I will need to order these flies- but as long as they keep on hatching out great I’ll keep buying them for Kermit. I did not want to buy alternative frog foods because our goal is to release him again and I didn’t want him to get used to being lazy getting frog pellets.Thank you so much for the honest sale! Flies hatched as promised and though I’m not counting- I feel the seller was honest.

    Irritating… Hungry Frogs…
Ordered many times and this is the first time, every single fly was hatched and dead. Also, order 50 Blue Bottom Fly Spikes all dead. Expect a full refund or replacement ASAP. Hungry Frogs to feed.

    Fully hatched flies
I am always happy to order from Josh, but lately, the flies I order come fully hatched n then die either the next day or the following. So I don’t get to use them all and waste almost 75%.

25% hatch and they die quickly
This is okay if you want about a quarter of the number of flies you pay for, and only need them to live up to 3 days. I got these hoping to establish my own little colony to feed my hatchling veiled chameleons and instead only got about 3 days worth of feeding out of it. I kept the flies in a large mesh habitat with plenty of food, water, and soil but they quickly died off. Now I have to clean dozens of carcasses and unhatched pupae, oh boy.

    Flies hatched and dead
Flies were nearly all already hatched and most were dead. Waste of money

Great hatch rate but I received 200 plus FLIES instead of Pupae
I’ve had good experiences with Josh Frogs, but this package was delayed by days so I received an unpleasant surprise. Very difficult to manage that many flies at once! I don’t know if the delivery issue was time of year of ordering through Amazon, but when I ordered directly from the company, I received flies within 2-3 days, so I will return to that method.Pupae are much more manageable, plus last longer. Still don’t know how I will successfully feed my mantises over the next couple of weeks without having flies all over the house…
