Great Peace of Mind
I wish I knew about these earlier. Excellent for peace of mind and to prevent injuring your fish with a broken heater.

This will save your fish from a faulty heater.
This will save your fish from a faulty heater. If your heater overheats or exceeds the maximum temperature you set on the Inkbird, it shuts off the electricity to the heater. The electricity is restored once the water cools down about 2 or 3 degrees. This cycle will repeat until you replace your faulty heater. I run one of these on each of my 4 aquariums.

I prefer the 308S but this 306 works fine
SUMMARY: I have two Inkbird temperature controllers and they are very good products for the money. My biggest comment about Inkbird is this: The features and variations of the different inkbird models are hard to make sense of, especially in the amazon listings. There is better info online, but it’s still a chore to make sense of what each model does and does not do, and which ones have alarms and which have different timed settings, etc. They have different models with different options and it’s worth your time to make sure you get what you need. Also, I noticed that there are some new models (it’s early 2019 as I write this) that look better than their original controllers. They probably work the same, but have been styled to look like they belong in a living room instead of a greenhouse.I just bought a 306 to use as a fail-safe for an aquarium heater. I already have a 308S for another aquarium. I prefer the 308 to the 306 for a couple reasons: 1 – the 306 has a slight buzzing and occasionally clicks when switching on or off (the 308S is silent and seems to function better in general). 2 – the 306 seems to go for 10 minutes or more without changing the temperature reading (when I know the temperature is changing), then will quickly update itself several times over a few seconds, then not change for 10-15 minutes again. This is not really a big problem for my use but the 308S reading seems to always adjust quite frequently and I was expecting the 306 to be similar. The 306 model has a feature that I have not set up but is worth noting…the different settings based on time are a super feature if you are using it for reptiles.Overall I am impressed by what the Inkbird products can do for what they cost. The instructions are a little hard to follow but they are trying to pack a lot of settings into a few buttons, and setting multiple temperature points and ranges of variation can be complicated. Add in different settings for different times, and high and low alarms on the 308, and I think given the complexity of what they do, the buttons and instructions are pretty good.

Model with New Aquarium Temp Probe – So Far So Good.
Like many purchasers I bought this new version of the 306T because I do not trust the thermometer on my heater. I really like the big red digital readout that shows me current temp at a glance, from across the room. There is no information yet on the Inkbird website about this new variant of the 306T. The listing photos show the only difference I can see: an all plastic sealed temp probe, that is supposed to be more water proof than the metal tipped probe. I do see than thermometer failure, while not common, is an issue with some of the 306Ts, and my hope is this will solve it. I will revise my review if it does not.A couple of things I did not know: 1st, the finest setting is +/- 1 degree. So if I set it to an average 79 degrees, my heater will come on at 78 and go off at 80. That is fine I think. Other controllers may be more precise…but then they would be going on/off much more frequently. Also, unlike some models, neither version of the 306T seems to have a replaceable thermometer probe. It is permanently attached. I had hoped that this aquarium specific version might come with a suction cup to attach it to the tank. It does not. Still, I am very happy for the price, and it seems very well made. Easy for me to set up with the included instructions.

perfect! 10/10!
this is amazing! it works perfectly, and i feel so much better knowing my heater is protected if it fails so my fish wonât be harmed. i also love that i can check the temp from across the room. its very duriable too! iâm not worried about it breaking. the control is easy too. i just as a little intimidated and confused at first when adjusting the settings after opening but now itâs easy.
