Upgrade that stock Top Fin PF40
It puffs up just fine if you use HOT water to soak it. Mine expanded just fine and made my Top Fin PF40 WAY quieter and even flowing.

Thick and versatile
When I first got this I wasnât sure what size I was given. The material was vacuum sealed and when cut of its plastic wrap I was skeptic. After a few days (because a few days guarantees me it was soaked well and good) of soaking the filter in a bucket of water, it transformed into this large filter. It has a good cellulose thickness of about one inch. It is also easy to cut to size using a box cutter, a metal ruler and a self healing cutting board for deep cuts. While cutting though, it snared and tore, acting as if itâs a fiberous material. To me that means itâs not stiff but very pliable. Once cut and fitted into a jar, it does keep its shape very well. Only after a week or so can I tell if its filter works well. It has no smell so it wonât bother me or my aquatic friends. What I like most is itâs very versatile. You can cut to any size you need; for me it was for my homemade tiny pond filter.

An excellent base sponge for larger particle filtration. It arrived in a VERY flat, air-tight, compressed package and didn’t look like much. However, after soaking it in warm water for a few minutes, as written in the accompanying instructions, it unfolded and puffed up to a full inch thick. It can easily be cut to fit whatever your need for it is. It makes a great base media in an aquarium filter to collect all the larger particles. It’s highly reusable, too, just rinse it out, squeeze it out, and put it back in all nice and clean. This sheet will last a very long time. I’ve also cut a small piece to wrap around my filter’s intake tube. This is a perfect solution for protecting my little shrimps from getting sucked into the filter. One package of these and a box of filter sheets⦠and you will never need to buy filter cartridges again.

Not a bad value depending on what you need them for
These are good filters for hang-on-the-back filter arrangements. They are too thin for canister arrangements. Good quality and easy to shape. Not a bad value. The sponge is thick enough to absorb tiny particles but you’ll need something for dense to get the clarity you need in your tank.

This is a fine sponge filter pad. I unfolded it and let it expand. I cut smaller section pieces for my submerged filter pumps that has been worn down. the filter quality is good and pretty durable after 2 weeks of use. Its a great value compared to buying a specific filter replacement, especially if you have different filter sizes and aquarium filter needs. I have 10 gallon , 50 and 100 gallon filters that i use this in. works great and keeps the water clear. For my pond i use it to water splash absorber to lower water noise.

Good for my ducks
I have a 5 gallon bucket that I converted into a pond filter for my ducks so I didn’t have to keep changing out their water. Since I always have a need and use for sponge filter pads I nabbed this. It is packaged just like they all are, with no air and then you apply hot water to expand it. It works well for my use, no complaints
