So much info packed into a tiny package
This book is small and handy and is packed with tons of information, both written and illustrated. I just wish they would make this in a SPIRAL form so it could lay flat while you are trying to follow the directions when your hands are busy manipulating leather braids. This book has the basics (which help to lay down a foundation for leather braiding) and I’d consider it an abridged version of Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding. So, if you’re looking to really delve into some serious leatherwork, then you should also get Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding. Otherwise, this book should be sufficient to cover most essential needs.

Cowboy Horse gear…..
To begin with, I’ve already owned this edition of the book for several years…I bought it, in 1980, and used the devil out of it… I was starting out, and at thattime, could do simple things, and was making reins and other forms of headgear,but needed more..My Original purchase was another Bruce Grant publication… Encyclpedia of Rawhideand Leather braiding…. This is an advanced, instructional series….and centered onCowBoy Horse Gear, hence the “title”…I guess, that the fact that I’ve bought it again, is a demonstration of my beingcontent with it…. I lost my other copy in a house fire, along with the others..Obviously, this is a replacement… Easy to understand, as long as you read, andtake your time… Braiding and weaving, leather isn’t something you can buy abook for, and then, forget about it… Much like some do, with the average set ofinstructions..I will learn something, and unless I do it, regularly, I will be back for referral…because, multiple strings, are difficult, to say the least… once you get whereyou are comfortable, there is a lesser need to refer to it…All I can say is, I have made numerous projects, and I recommend this as one book to have…..I hope I’ve helped someone….

Horsemen should own this!
Very detailed instruction for ropes, lariats, reatas, reins, bosals, hobbles, etc. And a section on saddlemaking in the revised/updated version. A must have for instruction or as a collectible. You can make a work of art, appreciate others’ workmanship, or possibly even make a career from braiding (after sufficient experience) with this book.

My son loved this!
My 12 year old son has recently developed an interest in rawhide braiding. He is like a vulture circling any dying cow on the ranch. What a funny kid. He stretches and cuts his own rawhide laces so he was exstatic to get this book for Christmas! He has been into leather for years now too!

Good but not for beginners
Good information and historical perspective. Not a book for a beginner and very limited details. I lol suggest as a reference book, but there are others with better overall information.

Great book
The pictures do not necessarily match up with the descriptions. That is the worst thing that one can say about this book. The author does a first rate job of describing the how and why of most everything involved. Most of the projects have multiple ways to accomplish explained. An indispensable book for a tack do-it-yourselfer.

Ce livre explique comment réaliser bosal, brides, reatas et autres objets encore de manière traditionnelle, en tressant du cuir brut.En procédant pas par pas, on y arrive, même s’il faut reconnaitre qu’en anglais ce n’est pas parfois pas facile!Si vous êtes intéressé par le travail du cuir et la culture des cowboys et buckaroos, achetez ce livre.
