This does work if your cribber is lacking minerals
I tried this on my 4yo mare when she virtually became a beaver overnight. Sprays and such had little to no effect. She had no previous cribbing issues, and had changes in feeding and pasture. I wanted to rule out a mineral deficiency. After a week of being on this, she did slow down chewing my boards. After 2 weeks she stopped completely. This confirmed my suspicions. We have continued with supplements and have no more cribbing issues from her at all.If your horse is doing this from boredom or habit, this will not likely help. Finding the cause for the cribbing is vital to correcting the behavior. An old tried and true method that works for those horses is to paint the boards with used motor oil. Prevents rotted wood, and prevents the horse from chewing. This however is only addressing the behavior – not the cause.

    Doesn’t not work at all
Did not work at all. We have 7 horses, tried it for 2 months, and it did not work on any of them. Complete waste of money.

    This works!
I have a true beaver in the barn. She is my horse that chews everything. I have replaced boards many time over. I have given her supplements, mineral blocks, etc. I have painted the wood with the Farnam Chew Stop that has the hot pepper taste (worked a little but had to reapply once a month and is expensive) and I have used the Brown Halt Cribbing oil paint (this works but it’s brown and oily and my horse would rub up on it and get brown stain all over herself). I was sure hoping this would work and it has. I would say that her chewing my fencing and boards is down 95%. This stuff works !!!! I will definitely buy it again.

    Didn’t work for this horse…
Was hoping for a miracle, but didn’t see a noticeable difference. I gave it three stars because I would now lean towards the view that this would help horses who are lacking in certain nutritional requirements. Our boy is a show horse whose diet, supplements and health are very carefully managed, so he’s not likely to be lacking anything in the way of vitamins or minerals. He’s a rare gem who is happiest when working or in the show ring…or getting his lovin’ of course (since he thinks he is a puppy rather than a horse). Since this is his first winter in a backyard barn rather than a big show barn, and we’re now well into the bad weather that limits how much he gets ridden, it’s becoming clear that his chewing is out of pure nerves and boredom. Seems like our answer won’t be found in a bucket.

    Worked
We had a colt that was eating the bark off trees. I put this Quitt in the feed for 3 horses as directed until we used up the 3.75 lbs, and it stopped the bark-eating. Four months later, the colt is at it again, so I’m ordering some more. I’d be surprised though if it worked on a bored horse in a stall, but it worked for our situation.

Amazing product! I had my doubts it would really work, but it did. I guess the only down side is having to continue to feed it daily, but I guess that’s less expensive than damaged wood.

    Waste of time and money
Thought this would be a good solution to our problem with horses chewing trees, woord posts, railings, barn framing–pretty much anything wood. Unfortunately, after spending $100 on a large bucket of this stuff–NO IMPACT!! It was like feeding the horses molasses pellets. They liked it well enough, but it didn’t seem to have an impact on a single one of the 4 horses.

    It worked for me
As other reviewers mentioned, this is either the holy grail or nothing. Fortunately it worked like magic for my mare who was chewing our brand new barn to pieces non stop. It took about a week for her to stop but she did. Worth a try!!
