If you are handy and comfortable with doing minor repairs, don’t wait do this lint removal!
Dryer lint, who would have thought or gave it any? Just like any other appliance, like our cars, We just put in the key, fill up some gas or plug it in when you remember to and go about our merry way right? Who would have thought appliances we take for granted need maintenance? The audacity of it all right?Well, when it comes to your car, you don’t maintain it, it stops running. With your dryer, you don’t maintain it, well, you don’t maintain it. Clothes take longer to dry and for some mysterious reason, the metal cabinet get much warmer than before, or so your think. Who checks how warm their dry cabinet gets right? In the Winter, its a plus to have this additional source of heat. This would be in a fantasy world, you know that one that someone else takes care of everything for you. The last time I had that I was living with my parents and a very long time ago. So let’s get down to why you NEED to do this maintenance. Lint – tiny bits of fiber from your clothing that break off during the drying process and blows out that vent pipe connected to the back of your dryer. When everything is shiny and new, most of it probably blows out into the atmosphere or onto your expensive landscaping on the side of your house. But over time, like the layer of dust that is collecting behind your television or clothes dresser, it becomes thicker and denser. As it starts to build up, the surface becomes on a microscopic level a mountain range, with nooks and crannies like your favorite English Muffin affording more place to snag all those tiny bits of fiber from your favorite tee shirt or jeans. When you think about it, its like our arteries from choosing that delicious burger instead of that rabbit food of a salad. Getting smaller and smaller the openings.Well, there’s hope and a cure, not for your arteries, that take a change in lifestyle and a bunch of exercise. So to help with both of that. Get this kit and extension in case your dryer vent pipe of more than 12 feet in length or like in my case only accessible from behind the dryer so I had to get the extension. Determine if A) you can get access to the exhaust end of the dryer vent outside your home B) how challenging it will be to move your dryer AND washer if necessary to gain said access.Things to have handy that will help depending on your home’s set up. A ladder, a cordless drill or corded one and a long extension cord, flashlight, a shop vac with a 2 1/2″ hose (your carpet vacuum will be overwhelmed by the garbage that will eventually come out so don’t bother to try but there is hope, more on that later), someone to help move the dryer. So that workout I was talking about right? In my case, it turned out our dryer vent exited on the roof. But I did not know that at first. Some homes the dryer vent exit is obvious like when it is in the garage or ground floor level It is easy to see where the hose goes. On homes where the washer/dryer is on the second or third floor (good grief imagine carrying all that laundry up those stairs!) finding the drying vent may be much more challenging. In these cases, turn on the dryer and listen/feel at the external vents for air pumping out. If your is not on the roof like mine, get to the opening with the ladder mentioned earlier. Now we’re working those muscles! Climbing up and down because you forgot to bring that flashlight and then later depending on the vent cover additional tools. Hopefully you can get that vacuum adapter into the outside opening. It may be covered by metal mesh to keep out those pesky birds from making a home rent free no less. If it is, you may need some tools to undo the screws or worse nails securing said mesh.Okay, I think you get the picture. In my case since the exit turned out to be on the roof on a two story home, going to the very top of the roof was NOT an option. I didn’t wish to be a home repair slip and fall. Since this kit the vacuum adapter has a smaller port to insert the flexible rods and brush from the same side as the vacuum attachment. The instructions states this set up is not ideal but doable. Since I already removed both of the french doors to the washer/dryer room and started moving the washer (why the washer? Turns out in our set up, the appliance doors are reversed and so are the washer/dryer. It was a challenge as both our washer and dryers are on pedestals. Plus our washer is on rubber foot dampers that are glued down to keep it from walking. (see my other review on those) This meant I had to LIFT and move at the same time to move the washer. Well, there’s that gym workout, I mentioned! Now the fun part, removed the flexible dryer hose, stick in the first flexible rod and connect the brush, attached the vacuum adapter, then the shop vac, the next section of flexible rod and then finally the drill. Turn on the vacuum and started the drill CLOCKWISE and started pushing it forward. Since I didn’t know just how far the dryer vent was, I just kept connecting the next length of flexible rod until on the 6th one, I felt some resistance and didn’t force the brush any further. I then kept running the vacuum and started the return trip for the rotary brush. Twenty or what felt like 30 minutes later, the final length of flexible rod was back at the vacuum adapter and it was time to see the spoils of all this drama and gym workout. Now it was time to muscle up and figure how to get that washer back onto those rubber feet and everything back together. I skipped my work out for the next day.PROS: less costly than hiring someone to do this job for you plus you own the tools to do it again the future. Heck, offer to do it for your family and friends for dinner or some cash. Simple to use and was straight forward. The dryer cabinet is much cooler and clothes come out more completely dry than prior to the lint removal.CONS: the vacuum adapter would not fit onto what I THOUGHT was our dryer vent outlet because of a non removable metal shroud that is attached under the stucco. if there was an angled pipe to attach to this adapter before connecting the vacuum hose would possibly remedy this. Cost is a little bit high for what you get but for what it does, its fair.OVERALL: if you are comfortable with moving your appliances and working an electric drill / vacuum then I recommend to get this and do it! Your clothes and utility bill will thank you.

    Dryer vent cleaner
We’ve lived in our place for 20 years and we have never fully cleaned the dryer vent. We have absolutely used hoses that attach to the vacuum and retrieved what I thought was a lot of lint, but nevertheless, I noticed a decrease in dryer performance. When the new dryer gave us an error code regarding the flow vent whatnot, I knew it was time to do a serious vent cleanout.I attacked the lint from both inside the house (laundry room vent) and outside. This was not a fast process because there was a lot of lint, but I inserted the rod(s), turned on the drill, pushed in and out, removed the rod(s) and inevitably removed clumps of lint from the brush. Rinse and repeat. When working inside the house, I started with one rod and then added additional rods when I was able to push in the rods all the way until the drill was near the entrance to the vent hole. But I could still feel a clog, so I switched to the outside. We used the dryer itself rather than a shopvac and when I went outside, the flow felt very faint and I could have sworn that it was stronger on my first pass. Nevertheless, I was undeterred and used all four rods. I retrieved a few paltry clumps and then JACKPOT! A few seconds after pulling out a huge clump, there was a whoosh of air and a cloud of dust flew out of the vent.Needless to say, I would absolutely recommend this product. It’s so easy to use that I feel like I could open my own dryer vent cleaning business now– haha

    Good idea, poorly made.
I’m glad Gardus makes this tool. It helps keep my home safe from dryer lint fires. However, the threading on these rods is poor, so the sections do not screw together snugly.

Great Tool…Make sure the seller sends you what you paid for.
Ordered the 24 ft version of this item and was sent a 12 ft version…that had a sticker over the printed label on the box…covering the printed 12ft label. You can see it under the sticker. AND… for good measure there were 4 – 3ft rods. 4 x 3 = 24 somewhere right? Product was unopened and unused at the time of delivery. I was in a hurry and used the tool before noticing. That said…the tool does work very well, just be sure you get what you ordered. Still gets 5 stars b/c the product works very well indeed. It’s not the products fault for the lies and deceit.

Great tool that will save you money and worry.
This is a tool every homeowner should have. Lint buildup in dryer vents is something that reduces the efficiency of your dryer and could easily cause a fire. Rather than call out a company to clean out your dryer vent, buy this tool and do it yourself in a short time. The first time I used it I was amazed at how much lint there was clogging up our dryer vent. It just kept pouring out with each section I added to the tool. The cleaning process took only about a half hour, even though I took the time to tape the fittings together each time I added a section to the tool. If you have a power drill you can use this tool. Just try not to run the drill in reverse. If you do, you could unintentionally unscrew the sections inside the vent pipe. That’s why I added the tape, just in case.Afterward, my wife was amazed at how quickly a dryer load finished. She had thought that the increasing time to dry a load of wash was due to an ever more inefficient dryer. Not so. A clogged vent makes the dryer work harder to do its job. If the clog is really bad it could cause enough heat to start a fire. Don’t let that happen.

Our dryer is located on the second floor and this is where I started. The vent is a 90 degree downward turn followed by another immediate 90 degree turn (both metal) towards the outside wall. The overall length of the foil vent (straight run) is 20 feet. After cleaning a length of 9 feet I went outside to finish cleaning the vent, but it was blocked and I couldn’t use the full 12 feet of cleaning rods. I confirmed it was blocked using an electric leaf blower so I went back in the house and started the cleaning process again and the brush cleared the blockage. We used the leaf blower again and the airflow was amazing. We cleaned out so much lint it was scary, almost a plastic shopping bag full.Key points when using this. I used Loctite on the thread for the brush and the small set screw. All rods were secured using two sets of pliers and electrical tape. Be careful not to over tighten. The drill was operated on a very slow setting and a shop vac attached to the adapter worked great. I also pulled back on the brush why operating the drill.I’m very happy with my purchase.

Good thick rods that bend and do what the full kit does. They also fit with the original full dryer vent cleaning kit, so if you have a run of pipe that is longer then 12 feet, this will work. My advice? Buy a few rolls of electrical tape. You may accidentally reverse your drill, so tape each section to prevent reverse unthreading problems. Or use a drill that has a switch that can’t be hit accidentally.
