    Great Rat Snake Resource
Great resource. Lots of generalized info as well as each individual species. I’ve been having a hard time finding info on my specific species of rat snake(Everglades) and the book was incredibly informative about them and several others as well.

Great photos of most rat snakes.
This book dealt with the many changing issues on the taxonomy of rat snakes which really helped me since I was very familiar with the old taxonomy. Plus I learned about the rat snakes outside N.A..

Bought this due to a previous viewer saying its mainly about “rat Snakes” than corns (corn snakes are a type of rat snake even says it in the book). Anyways exactly what i wanted I’m looking into a Rat Snake – particularly “Red Tailed Racer” very detailed on all species – Looking after, Temperament, temps etc. Would recommend the book hands down 🙂

I grew up on the older version of this book when I got my first corn snake. I bought this one recently, curious how they had updated their information. It’s from 2006. I’m sure in 2006 the information was great, but facts are out of date. For example shedding, there are many ways to help a snake shed where your pet won’t have to spend the night in a damp pillowcase. Heat mats are also a bit dated. They are still used but I find the best heat that also provides ambient heat are heat bulbs or ceramic heat emitters. First time owners should look up facts from many different sources and sources that are from 1-2 years ago. This book being more than a decade old just won’t suffice as the only source for beginner snake owners. There are still some great facts and beautiful pictures!!

Seems to be a good grounding in the subject. Quite USA focused in its language and perspective and it can be a bit dense for younger readers.

This is a good book and very informative with plenty of good quality pictures however the titl gives the impression that it is mainly about corn snakes ‘and other rat snakes’ but the book seems to centre more on the rat snake.I was dissapointed to be honest that there were’nt more pictures and information on corn snakes.
