Customers say
Customers report that the birdseed attracts a wide variety of birds and works well, with cardinals and finches particularly enjoying it. The product keeps squirrels mostly at bay, though some customers say it doesn’t deter them. While some customers find it well worth the price, others consider it expensive. The heat level receives mixed feedback, with one customer noting the coating is too spicy.

Great Bird Seed to Keep Squirrels Away
This is great bird feed to keep squirrels away. I have it on subscription shipping so I’m never out. The birds seem to love it! The squirrels haven’t been back since I switched to this and they tried it once – that was enough to keep them from trying to get into the bird feeder again.

Birds love, squirrels hate
Perfect to keep squirrels out of bird food. Birds love it and are not affected by the heat. Squirrels try to eat it but only once, then they leave it alone. Be sure to wear gloves and wash hands after filling feeder so you don’t get hot spots on you.

Squirrels leave it alone
Seeds are hulled, so mess is minimized. Seeds are spicy, so squirrels no longer empty the feeder within a scant few hours– they just stay away from it entirely. However, the birds (cardinals, sparrows, morning doves, etc) make pretty rapid progress on it themselves (they will eat all but the chaff within a day or two). It’s on the pricey side, so I’ve considered “diluting” with untreated seed–but haven’t yet, so can’t say what proportions might work well.Advisable to wash hands after handling, particularly if prone to touching your eyes.

It REALLY does get rid of the squirrels!
I tried quite a few other bird seeds that were supposed to deter the many squirrels we had every day with no luck. They came the first day or two after I put this seed out, however, I’ve not had one squirrel for months…I’m on my 5th order now. Plus, it doesn’t sprout on the ground. Just wish the grackles and mourning doves didn’t like it as much as the cardinals, red wings, wood peckers and titmouse do.

Stops the squirrels
We couldn’t stop the squirrels from eating all the seed no matter what we did. Then we tried this Coles Cajun Cardinal Blend. The first couple videos we got from the feeder after switching to this Coles seed were squirrels who sniffed around for a minute and then left. We haven’t had any squirrels since. Even mixing it with the Kaytee Nut & Fruit which the squirrels really loved. It’s just birds now.

I think the formulation has changed because it no longer works
We have bought this seed for several years, but something has changed in the formulation. It used to be completely effective against squirrels and mice. Since the last two bags, however, the rodents are having a feast. I thought the first bag was just a mistake in manufacturing – an error that slipped by. I just bought another bag of the same brand at a local shop and we are having the same results. Rodent fiesta! This stuff is expensive and itâs the last Iâll purchase. Peppermint spray deters the squirrels and garlic paste repels the mice. Not as convenient as the Cajun seed but lots cheaper and more effective. This stuff is a waste of money.

Helpful at Repelling Squirrels
This does work. The bigger birds like it and it seems to keep the squirrels mostly at bay. Safer to use than the anti-squirrel feeders that can harm birds & squirrels.

Cardinals like it
The cardinals are eating it, I donât think the squirrels are messing with it.
