Customers say
Customers find this neatsfoot oil to be a high-quality product that works well on various surfaces and effectively softens leather, with one customer noting it’s particularly effective on new western boots. The oil is easy to apply, especially to leather bomber jackets, and customers appreciate its use on baseball gloves and other leather items. While many customers report the oil gives leather an attractive darkening, others mention it doesn’t darken at all. The product has mixed reviews regarding its odor, with some finding it neutral while others describe it as having a horrible smell.

It works well to soften & moisturize leather, and (mine) didn’t stink
I read several reviews saying that this product was rancid, and the stink ruined their leather. Neatsfoot oil is rendered from the leg bones of cattle, and is normally a very stable item if it’s kept in a sealed container that blocks sunlight at normal room temperature. If it is allowed to sit open, in contact with air, moisture, high heat, or bacteria, then it will spoil. The bottle I received was NOT rancid.I’m building a guitar stand for my son’s recording studio. We could have bought them ready-made cheaper, but they were just MDF junk wood with thin veneer laminations. We sprung for some good mahogany and rock maple, and used hand-cut dovetails for the joinery, with 5 coats of gold shellac, and they are spectacular. To cushion the base rails and notch-board (where guitars will rest), I ordered some nice black veg-tan strips of leather from Tandy. Nice leather, but stiff as a board.I rubbed two liberal coats of the Bickmore neatsfoot oil into the polished side of the strips, letting it soak in for 12 hours after each coat, then wiped off the excess and buffed it with a clean rag. The leather was significantly more supple and soft, and while there was a slight odor from the oil, it was not strong, unpleasant, or rancid in any way. Because the leather was already dyed pure black, I wasn’t concerned about the normal darkening you get with this oil.I then applied a coat of Bick 4 (Bickmore’s leather conditioner), let it dry for a couple of hours, and then buffed it out. Finally, I worked the strips hard, stretching them back and forth over a doorknob. They are now soft, and can be easily bent and bonded to the inside of the notches to cushion the guitar necks. If you aren’t concerned about darkening your leather, this neatsfoot oil is the best stuff I’ve found to soften, moisturize, and protect stiff leather.

Soft bunnies
Huge bottle. I bought a little one to pour this into as carrying around this giant bottle is only asking for me to spill it everywhere. Add a little dawn dish soap in to emulsify the oil and itâs perfect for hide tanning. Makes my rabbit pelts so soft and supple. Easy to work.

Good, pure oil for fine leather.
Natural neatsfoot oil is hard to find, most of what I see locally having all manner of nasty additives. This has a neutral odor, goes on easily and seems to work nicely.

Got sent in a bubble mailer, got crushed in transit and leaked into said bubble mailer. Amazon really needs to box these. The oil itself is great.
