Great for Striper; 1 year review
I got the 9â6â medium weight rod and Iâve been fishing with it for over a year. Itâs great. Iâve caught many stripers including a PB 28.5 inches over 10lbs.Overall Iâm really pleased with this rod. Iâve had a few mishaps that could have broken it but itâs withstood the abuse. Itâs got great sensitivity; I can feel a small change in weight like a blade of eel grass or small piece of algae on my lure. I can feel when a striper mouthes my paddle tail before a real strike. Itâs got plenty of backbone and I recently landed three stripers over 24â in choppy water and it was flawless. I have it paired with penn fierce 3 4000 spinning reel loaded with 20-30lb braid. This rod can handle the big fish well. If anything itâs underrated. I would say it can easily throw 3-4oz lures. One other potential downside is the reel seat, which is a little small for a rod this size. I can just fit my Penn 4000. The locking ring has a tendency to loosen. Iâve never had the main ring loosen so that the reel is loose. I just have the retighten it frequently. This may also be due to my hand position where I hold the rod with my fingers split around the base of the reel.Itâs not a huge thing and considering the price Iâm still very happy with this rod. I fish exclusively in saltwater and I donât always rinse my gear. The rod is holding up great and I see no corrosion at all. Iâm not wild about the foam on the butt. It tends to hold marks from pressure thatâs been applied to it. I have a compact car and since this rod breaks down in two pieces itâs still 4â9â I prop it inside the back of my car with the butt wedged down by the drivers seat. This has left indentations in the grip. Not a big deal but a little annoying.Final thought: Berrypro should make a true light surf rod. I would be happy to test it for themð

Great Rod.
So bought the 9.6â rod. I idea it two days in a row and nothing bad to say. It held up great. For me it was a little too big. One thing I did notice was I was primarily fishing for Halibut in San Diego. Using a 1oz torpedo weight and gear plus the weight of the bait (sardine) it seemed to be a bit to much for the tip. Thereâs nothing wrong with the rod and made me go grab the all carbon 9 foot one which you can have more load on rod. These are great rods and the price point is amazing. Seems that most all negative feedback is pertaining to shipping. My rod came in a box and a nice travel sleeve. Buy and judge for yourself. The fact that you can return it should be all you need to judge for yourself. Cheers

Perfect
Cheap price but not cheap quality. This rod has slung very heavy lures a mile and caught some good fish.

If you haven’t bought this do it
In the realm of surf rods there’s many out there. Hundreds… This one though… As my first official surf rod purchase just get it. For the price and specs it punches WELL over it’s specs. I bought the 9’6 as it tailors to my needs more. Paired with a 2016 Shimano nasci 4000 on 20lb power pro this thing launches all my lures. Wanna throw a 3/8 rooster tail? No problem. 2 1/2 oz umbrella rig? NO PROBLEM. I have used the TFO 10’6 with the inverted first guide and the bite detection on this rod is just as good. I fish for white bass, stripers, hybrids, and even occasionally snag a paddlefish. This rod does it all. On the weight side this rod is way lighter than you’d think. It’s a 50/50 for my vs the 10 where it’ll be a 60/40. Comes a neat carry bag with the rod spec and logo. In the future I can see this rod going up in price indefinitely. Have fought dozens of heavy fighting hybrids in fast water and it handled everyone of them with ease. I can throw a 1/4 oz jig swimbait upwards to 60+ yards with this. If you want an all around rod that can be roughed with and doesn’t kill your bank account look no further. The butt of the rod is also small enough to where it does not interfere with retrieval. With my 9’6 I am able to cast all day with little to barely any fatigue. Dont let the small name fool you… It handles and handles well. The action on the spec is accurate as I have the heavy. Stiff but not overly enough to not feel anything. Some say their QC is low but in my experience what I received was excellent. zero complaints. What it could improve – could use maybe one more guide to help with accuracy on casting. Not the worse but I feel one more guide would help.Again for what one pays for this just blows my expectations out of the water. If you’re looking for a starter rod or something more of a daily driver this is amazing to add to your inventory. Don’t let the small name and price shy you away. Definitely getting a second one.

Packaging
Packaging could use some work. It came in a big box with a couple packing materials to try and hold it in place. I lucked out on shipping because the rod arrived in great condition. The bag that comes with the rod is on the cheaper side but overall the rod feels good, quality is as expected for the price. Have yet to use it however.
