How Does It Work? This filter uses bubbles of air from an external air pump, or an integral water pump to draw water through filter. As water is drawn out through the lift tube or pump, it is replaced by water entering the filter. The top layer of white filter pad provides a mechanical filtration. The black bio-sponge in the 2nd layer and ceramic rings with gravel provides biochemical filtration. They support the colonization of bacteria. The bacteria help to break down harmful waste (ammonia and nitrite). What Maintenance Does It Require? The sponge will need to be rinsed every time it becomes dirty, about once every 2 to 4 weeks. It’s helpful to reserve the beneficial bacteria by washing the sponge gently with water from the fish tank instead of tap water. Dimension: 2.75″(L) x 3.15″(W) x 7.0″(H)

Customers say
Customers find the aquarium filter works well, particularly for 2.5 to 10 gallon tanks, and appreciate its quality media that keeps water crystal clear. The filter is easy to use and offers good value for money, with one customer noting it performs as well as larger models. While customers find it easy to take apart and clean, some mention it can be difficult to open for maintenance.

Works Great in 5.5 Gallon Betta Tank.
I bought a 5.5 gallon starter kit for my Betta fish. It came with a filter but it was so strong that my poor Betta would get stuck against it. After much research, I learned that the recommended filter for Betta fish is an internal air driven filter. I didn’t have much luck locally but I found this one as well as several others on Amazon. I chose this one because it fit perfectly in the corner of my tank and wouldn’t get in the way of my decor (I have drift wood, a little hidey hut, Marimo moss balls and several live plants). An added plus is that I was able to use sand as my substrate because this filter does not kick up the sand as it filters. I bought a Tetra Whisper Air Pump for up to 10 gallons to use with this as it requires an air pump in order to work. I’m happy with my purchase overall. The only thing I would mention and the reason I gave 4 starts instead of 5 is that when you take it apart to clean the filter sponges, it’s a bit difficult and you risk cracking the plastic housing while you’re trying to open it. My advice would be to be patient and gently wiggle it apart. I also wish it came with a carbon filter but that easily added.

Works great in a 5 gallon tank

10/10 product
Make sure to have an air bubbler and airline tubing on hand, amazing product for bettaâs and other not so good swimmers. I paired it in a 5.5 gal. with two airstones and a dual bubbler that has adjustable airflow. Gives me room to add the plants I want to. Bettaâs water is pristine. Between the price, media contents included and cost efficiency to run itâs the best filter so far!

Amazed on the quality and fuctionality!
This is the best filter I have seen in a long time. The design is great. This one is for tanks 5-10 gallons, but I have mine in a 20 gallon. It is doing a great. The water is extremely clear and I have 10 fish in a 20 gallon tank. I truly love the design. With filters that hang over the side, can be noisy when the water starts to evaporate. With this one, you will not get that. It adds oxygen to the water with the bubbles and will reduce algae from forming with the extra water movement. Also there is no need to buy filters all the time. Just need to take it apart and rinse everything out. Very cost efficient. My only complaint is that it doesn’t sit level unless you put something on top of it. Otherwise, I love this filter!

Works Well, Looks Great
First, you should know it does require you to buy an air pump, which is what drives the water through the filter and puts out a stream of bubbles through the spout at the top. The filter looks great in the corner of the tank and I like that it doesn’t create as strong of a current as the waterfall filter did. Bettas aren’t strong swimmers and don’t like strong currents and this does a great job of filtering and aerating without sending the fish sailing around the tank. Also, I’d take the filter apart as soon as I get it and throw out the gravel in the bottom, but keep the ceramic pieces. Either buy and add some more ceramic pieces or some kind of fish-safe porous rocks. I have a few lava rocks in mine. You want to get good bacteria to colonize the ceramic pieces so that they help to tackle the ammonia and nitrates in the tank. I also add about 5 tablespoons of carbon/zeolite gravel which helps to neutralize ammonia even more, but don’t pack the bottom tray full. Get it about 3/4 full to allow for water flow. Additionally, don’t wash your filter media in tap water, which has chlorine that will kill the good bacteria you’re trying to grow. Wash the filter and the media with distilled, bottled, or tank water.

where can i get replacement foam and charcoal inserts?

Cost should not preclude anyone from aquarium-keeping. These filters are great and easy to use. Especially when you consider you still need tubing, a valve-flow controller and replacement filter media. They are clear and somewhat blend into the background, but still allow you to visually monitor them to see if a media change is necessary.Tip: keep an eye for sales and slip an extra one somewhere in your tank to season it for your replacement or next bigger tank. Cheers!
