Quartz Gravel is the Rolls-Royce of our range. Natural Quartz not only looks wonderful but has also been shown to help reduce the build up in the aquarium. This is partly due to the huge surface area of quartz which offers added space for the establishment of tank cleaning bacteria. Quartz sparkles underwater due to the many light reflecting facets and is a striking substrate that contrasts well with aquarium plants such as anubias and amazon swords.

Very very fine – almost like sand – beautiful!
I ordered this to add a âsedimentâ layer for my aquatic plants, and to give a different landscape for my betta Tatsu. I rinsed and soaked them in a bucket overnight to get all the debris out and peace of mind that itâs clean; definitely helped with the cloudiness prior to adding.I added a thin layer across the pea gravel I already have; it was plenty of material for my 10 gallon tank. If used alone with no other substrate/rocks, youâd probably need 2 bags of this for a 10 gal.My pet peeves but doesnât totally kill the vibe:1. They donât sparkle under water at all â¹ï¸2. If you have a foam filter like mine that sits at the bottom, these quart rocks are as small as sand and my filter sucked them up and clogged it. I will be getting a top flow filter instead, so not too annoying.3. I will update once I do a complete tank clean to share how difficult it is to clean with how small they are – by the looks of it, itâll be a challenge. Wish they were larger size!

Great for my aquarium
Love how this made my aquarium look. I ran out and went to the local pet store and bought the same brand but it was more of a fine sand. These one isn’t so fine which works better for my needs.

Looks really pretty, qreat quality!
Looks really pretty, qreat quality! Fraction of the cost compared to PetSmart/Petco!! I did rinse the substrate about 6x to get all the excess black color off. Then it was perfect in the tank! Will buy again!

Sparkles when dry, not too dirty, does have some lighter rocks in it, but is pretty good regardless
To address other reviews:It does sparkle, but primarily when dry. It does say it is quartz gravel. However, when wet/underwater, it doesn’t really sparkle much. It’s not that dirty of gravel. If you ever buy natural gravel from any brand, it’s always dirty and needs lots of rinsing, even when prewashed. Just being moved around, the gravel will grind away on itself and create dust. I’d say that I didn’t have to wash this gravel nearly as much as the super cheap stuff at Petco, but i still rinsed about 3-4 times to get it to stop clouding water. It’s also kind of in a space between gravel and course sand. It’s one of those situations where we have to start debating the semantics of sand vs gravel before we can really call it one or the other. It’s very fine gravel, or very course sand. It’s mostly a bit smaller than the listing says, as i don’t think that many of the pieces are actually around 2mm.There are some lighter-colored pieces in the mix. There aren’t a ton of them, but enough that I could see fish confusing them for food or something. However, I doubt it’s as big of a problem as people make it out to be. I personally like the black gravel with a small amount of lighter bits, as it makes it feel more natural and gives it more of a visual “texture”. I can understand being disappointed if you want all jet-black gravel, but honestly I’ve never seen any gravel that was entirely black without it being artificially colored.I like this gravel because it’s a good size for my pea puffer. It’s not as problematic to work with as normal, finer sands, as very few pieces in the mix will float in the water column, even when being stirred/cleaned in a big bucket full of water. I find it attractive and easy to clean. My actual only complaint about it is that it’s very pricey compared to many regular sands or gravels.

Beautiful Black Sand
Just set this up tonight in about an hour of time. Was sketch about getting the black sand and reading the reviews. However, if you do as everyone says and clean it, and then when you think the waters clean then rinse it one more time. I did this about 8 rinses in a kitty litter bucket we only use for freshwater. This picture is 5 minutes after I added the last bucket of water. Key point is to use a bowl and set it in the bottom and let it float around as you pour the water in, hitting the bowl with the water every drop. Crystal clean and looks amazing. Highly recommend this product if you do the right steps!Ps as you can see in the video it is not entirely black, but I love the color contrast and how it glistens off the LED light.

Very attractive substrate
Not what I expected, but works really well in my Betta aquarium. It has very attractive sparkly grains in it. It also works well as a substrate for plants, everything I planted is thriving.

Very nice
Looks great!I will note it was pretty dusty and took a bit to wash off. I did have to empty my tank twice to get rid of the last of it but honestly if you have a bigger bucket it would be easier.Definitely will use this again though.

Bad product with foreign matter all over sand.
Zero stars is not an option or Iâd give it 0. Sand had weird foreign fragments. There were so many I had to return. This is unsafe! Only discovered them because I was rinsing the sand and dumping the water outside in the sunlight. B warned! I will never buy this brand again. See images. Glass, metal, fiberglass? No idea. But this should never gotten passed quality control!

En mi caso fue una excelente opción para mi gambario, les recomiendo leer las instrucciones de uso para su correcto funcionamiento, ya que veo mucho comentarios negativos. Lo recomiendo ampliamente si su intención es tener gambas, platas o peces pequeños.

Not suitable for bottom dwellers. Extremely sharp, I even cut my hand while rinsing! Some pieces are long, thin. Itâs also not even black – itâs about 50% green, with occasional earth-tone pieces.Wish Iâd trusted the forums and steered away, but I was eager for a black sand-like substrate. Iâll go back to using enamel-coated silicon sand for now.All grains you see in the photos are from the bag I ordered. Photos taken outside in the shade (natural light). Would return but I left it too long. Might use for my shrimp instead, after more research.

I bought this so I could make a planted aquarium. It is a nice black colour and a little sparkly. It holds my plants in well, and was easy to set up. I rinsed it a couple times before adding to an empty aquarium. I gently siphoned water from a cycled aquarium to not disturb it, and the water looked almost crystal clear right after set up! Iâd say this is a good quality substrate for the price and will buy it again in the future.

My fish love it they go and rub their bellyâs on it and it makes the tank look awesome, it holds the plants down in it the only issue is that if I point my filter straight down it will blow the sand around a bit, thatâs the only issue Iâve been having, but I just point my filter side ways (almost like to create a current) and it all flows and works great
