Customers say
Customers find the sponge filter works well in 10-gallon tanks, is super quiet, and is easy to clean, with sponges that can be rinsed out. The filter quality receives positive feedback, with one customer noting it’s better than air-driven alternatives. However, durability is a concern as units break down after a month, and water flow performance is mixed, with some reporting great flow while others say it’s minimal. Customers disagree on the product’s overall quality.

Dead after 45 days
Just over 1 month and it stopped working. Did troubleshooting and it has no clogs. Quality was good at first as it helped my tank cycle well and my shrimp loved it. No use now as the motor is already dead.Size was a little larger than expected but not bad. Easy to assemble and easily to clean. Just needed better quality motor. If it would work the value would be there for its cost as the filters are nice.Issue might be as others have stated that the filters are too thick.Edit: They reached out to resolve issue.

Definitely worth the price
I have had this filter a long time. The sponges do wear have a while. The suction cups do sometimes struggle keeping the device onto the aquarium. I am however giving a five star review. That is because it works well, easily to clean, quiet motor, and has shown great durability over the past two years.

Durable quiet and way better than canisters!
LOVE this filter!! Itâs the absolute easiest to clean. just unplug, rinse sponges and put them back. I use a specific pitcher to fill and rinse them in and water my plants with the water. Perfect set up.It doesnât suck up any of my small snails or shrimp, and they actually eat off of it too. I love that it pivots and although itâs a bit bigger than I NEED in a 10 gallon, itâs easily hidden with plants. Iâve had one for two plus years and just ordered a second one for my larger tank because Iâm over the maintenance of canister filters. Itâs held up for 2 years and still going strong and is absolutely worth the money. I like it better than my expensive canister filter

Waiting to see how long it goes
Bought this on November 23,2024 worked well untill May 10,2015 than the pump motor stopped working properly only a small hum with no power to move water …but I was able to easily open the top of the pump chasing and saw it was clogged with algae,I was able to clean it with a pipe cleaner and toothbrush after putting it back together it was working fine again so we shall see ð

Save Your Money, Purchase Something Better The FIRST Time.
I definitely wouldnât recommend this filter. Is it easy to use? Yes. Is it quiet? Yes. Does it work well? No. Is it worth your money? Also no. Does it keep your tankclean? While it cycles and there is hardly anything in there it does. Any other time, no.I bought this for a 20Gal tank, I have been using it since late October 2024 when I started cycling my tank and I finally got my 6 pea puffers December 8th. I started having issues with it by late December. Yes Pea Puffers are messy eaters, but the super fine sponges this AQQA filter comes with are ridiculous. They pick up no larger particles at all. My tank always has this cloudiness to it despite weekly water changes (sometimes biweekly if I choose to do a smaller water changes) WITH substrate siphoning. The sponges quickly âclog upâ and drastically reduce the flow output. Leaving you will almost stagnant water. Where especially when you have a planted tank, biofilm finds itself a nice home. If you read the reviews, one way (beyond cleaning your sponge constantly) is to pull the sponge up off the base a bit just before you get to the first set of intake holes. This does a pretty good job of limping this along as far as flow for awhile. However, as others have mentioned flow continues to decrease over time regardless to what you do, probably because the motor is junk and it is fighting against burdensome sponges.I did try quite hard to find a sponge with a large porosity to fit the intakes. Try as I might, I never found one with a hole small enough to actually stay on the intake. It was frustrating. Actually right now I have one sponge that it came with and an Aquael sponge cinched on to it with thread. IDK if it is even accomplishing anything. So here I am almost to March, 5 months later, I have done a lot of troubleshooting. Ultimately I decided this was a crap purchase. Hopefully I can save someone else from making the same mistake.

It’s okey
Does the job , but the material of the sponge is not very good, it clogs up very fast and when you clean it out you have to use hot water which in turn kills all the natural bacteria. The reason to be using hot water and not cold is because when you use cold, it becomes very slimy and doesn’t clean the filter other than that it does the job of filtering a 40 gallon tank housed of gold fish and guppies

Perfect for a shrimp tank
Excellent. This is a replacement filter. The same model lasted 4-years so I canât complain. I use the medium sized version in a 10-gallon shrimp tank and it effortlessly keeps the tank pristine.

What a difference.
This is my 4th sponge filter. It’s replacing one that I had to hook up to an air pump. I just didn’t feel that one got the tank “clear”. Within an hour of swapping it with this all in one, the tank looked so much better and proved I was correct, the other one just didn’t do the job. I’m happy but I think my fish are happier.

UPDATE – May 2024: The population in my 15 gallon tank increased with breeding and the filter sponges couldn’t handle the higher waste load as they are very fine. I considered sourcing coarser sponges to alleviate the pressure, but instead, relocated it to another 15 gallon betta tank with snails and shrimp. It works great in that tank, and I am still happy with this filter, as is my Betta.I wanted to switch to a sponge filter because the fish I got do not like strong flow, and the HOB filter I had could only be baffled so much. I decided to give this one a go because it has a built in pump (no need for an external air pump) and included bio media along with the mechanical sponge filters. This is a great feature for when you need to replace the sponges (two extra ones are included in the packaging and they will last you years) the bio media maintains the biological filtration to help prevent ammonia/nitrate/nitrite spikes. I use this in my 15 gallon tall, and it’s perfect! Absolutely quiet and the flow is not too strong when you extend the telescopic outlet to just above the water line. There is an optional air hose intake to add more aeration to the water if you need it, but I just run mine without as the outlet provides enough surface agitation for gas exchange. It is quite large, but with proper aquascaping, you can hide the filter from view. I’ve had the filter running for a few months now and I highly recommend it.
