I dont know how I lived without this before
I use this in my sheep pen. It’s fabulous. Just the right size. Works well. Not fussy to care for. It’s worth the money. I do put mine up during the warm season because our spring and summer weather is extreme. I leave it out from December thru March and I never have to bust ice!! Recommend for sure

A superior product as heated buckets go.
I have sheep, goats and miniature goats, as well as large dogs and have used the five gallon (20 quart) buckets in winter for many years. For me, it is easier for me to carry the 8 quarts than 20, and easier to dump out when cleaning. Most of my animals think this bucket is fine. A couple of “Prima donna” sheep with larger heads are fussy about this bucket, because they just don’t like having something close to their faces, but other sheep and all goats like it just fine — seems to be a matter of personal taste. It is a perfect size for lambs to drink out of as they start to wean. I have one in the pen where lambs are born and it is a handy size for a ewe who has just lambed to drink her molasses water, or for a mom to share with her babies. It is so important that pregnant and lactating animals keep hydrated! The water in the barn comes out of the pipes at about 50 degrees — the temperature of soil below the frost-line (and under the barn). The water in the bucket is a bit warmer and the animals appreciate the gently warmed water.I was thinking of regulating all my heat lamps and water buckets through a heat-cube at the outlet, and then changed my mind: The bucket already has a thermostat which can tell if the heating element needs to be on or off. There are times when the barn in the area of the outlet may be draft-free, while an individual bucket may be in a draft, and if the electricity is turned off, the bucket will freeze. If it freezes, it will crack. I’ve lost a couple of five-gallon heated buckets by unplugging them too early. Make sure your electricity is on!BTW, I have used grounded Outdoor Christmas Light extension cords hung from the ceiling by big blunt utility hooks and plug the buckets in at the top of pen-panels, or high on support posts or walls — out of reach of curious lambs or kids. I have even used buckets outside in freezing weather. I appreciate that this product comes with a grounded plug, and a wire coil around most of the cord so that curious little teeth can’t get a hold on it . Also, I have yet to hear of any animal getting an electric shock (however mild) from a grounded heated water supply. I think this is a superior product as heated buckets go.

I would not order these from Amazon
I ordered 2 of these buckets. I received a different brand that was less expensive. I didnât want that brand so I returned them. I ordered them a 2nd time and received the same incorrect ones again!!! I was pretty disappointed that I had to go through the trouble of returning them and waiting for a refund again!! I then ordered them from Walmart and received the correct ones. They are working great and were exactly what I needed. If you order them and are lucky enough to get the API brand I highly recommend them!

Nothing beats having warm water available in your barn in frigid winter
I keep this API 16 gallon bucket filled & plugged in inside an empty barn stall in winter to help with moistening grain for feeding horses or adding to cold water in smaller buckets to drink in frigid weather. I’m limited to the amount of electricity available in my situation & cannot have a deicer in the trough. This size is perfect to get things done that require benefits of adding warm water. The bucket is heavy duty, the element connection is reliable & heats up when temps fall below 32 degrees. I’ve had this bucket for 3 winter seasons & can vouch for it as a dependable, welcoming convenience to make life easier around livestock during harsh New England winters.

Holds up well.
Excellent heavy weight bucket with quality handle that didn’t break or split over the endless NW winter unlike all the other heated waterer garbage being sold by the shyster farm stores (looking at you TSC and North 40). Chickens all seemed reasonably happy with it.

Electric cord issue
I like this heated bucket because it holds a lot of water. It doesn’t get too warm and my animals will drink from it. My only complaint is that they put the cord inside the bottom so tightly that I had to actually cut the plastic out from under it to get the cord out. I thought it was just the one bucket but both of the buckets I ordered had the same issue.

Best winter investment ever for my Chickens
The chicken nipple watering system I had in place for my chickens froze up despite a heat tape. Found this heated bucket (never knew there was such a thing) and it is the best thing ever! Needed something that would not freeze up so I would not have to walk out to the coop every morning to bring unfrozen water to the chickens. This bucket was the perfect solution. I ran an extension cord out to the coop from the house, filled the bucket with water and even when the temps dropped to 7 degrees, my chickens had fresh unfrozen water.Even when we had snow on the ground and temps below freezing for about 3 days, I did not have to walk out to the coop every morning carrying a bucket of water. Now that it is almost spring, I have removed the bucket and fixed the nipple system and the chickens and I are very happy. Will store the bucket until next winter and then out it will come.
