Deerfly Patches are a non-chemical, odorless protection from biting deerflies. They are a disposable 2 inch x 6 inch adhesive patch that is placed on the back of the hat or cap and trap the deerflies as they buzz around your head. Virtually every deerfly will land on the patch because they target it as a good biting place. Deerflies, sometimes called Marsh Flies, Sheep Flies, May flies, Sand Flies, or Greenheads bite hard. Conventional repellents do not work well on them. Used by gardeners, fishermen, hikers, campers, runners, bikers, canoeists, horseback riders, anyone outside. Field tested and recommended by Ohio State University, and the Michigan Department of Fish and Wildlife. One patch will last all day on your cap. Shelf life in the package, several years. Works well
These patches work quite well. I was surprised by the number of deerflies stuck to the back of my hat after going for a rail-trail run at peak deerfly season.

    Invaluable for Deer Fly Season
These evil parasites go right for the tape before making their painful attacks. I now wear the bodies of my enemies as a warning to the others! The vendor shipped much faster than promised – thank heavens!

Deer fly patches are the best thing ever.
These patches are wonderful. Deer flies go right to them on your hat and you never get bit.

    Very sticky – works
What I thought were deer flies turned out to be horse flies. I only know because these caught a few so far. Some tips:-Follow the directions when applying the tape to your hat. This will save you some irritation. Make sure you use the right side, and yes, you do need to quickly pull the liner off the flypaper side like it says. Slow movement just drags it around like tar.-You’ll probably still get some adhesive on your hand from the flypaper side. If washing your hands doesn’t work, try rubbing it off on a paper towel. The friction seems to help.-If you walk too close to a branch, you’ll catch leaves, which obviously will decrease the effectiveness.-Have realistic expectations; i.e. this will not affect gnats, or anything else that aims for your face, neck, etc.

Somewhat effective, definitely betteer than repellant stray
To be fair it did work to some extent but not as much as I thought it would. It definitely seemed to keep the flies from buzzing around my head, but only a few landed and got stuck on the tape. My son was working next to me and wore a strip in the same place on his cap and never had a single fly land and get stuck on his. I am not ready to say they aren’t effective yet. I intend to give them a longer try in a few weeks and see how they work then.

1st deerfly remedy I have found that works
This product works great. Before I would have to wear a long sleeves shirt (no fun in hot weather), a large hat, and do a lot of swatting to try to keep from being bitten. Now as I walk along, I will hear and see a few deerfly buzzing around my head, and then it goes silent and they’re gone. The patch seems to attract them like a magnet. After a walk, I like to take off my hat and count the number of flies the patch has caught. I got 18 the last time. The patch come off my hat without difficulty and does not leave a residue behind on my hat. Now I don’t have to avoid the woods during deerfly season. I have not tried the patch yet in a heavily infested area. When I do, I will put on two patches but I imagine that they would clog up with flies pretty quickly and I would have to stop occasionally to replace the patches as they do.

Does not work as described in Virginia
i have two patches on my hat and got swarmed with deer flies and only one was caught with the tape. now this is a bad year for flies however the video results with the kid walking and my results were completely different. bring that kid to my house with the patches and he can walk next to me and keep the flies off. deer flies buzz your head but mostly land on skin of the face or neck. my opinion is that the kid had bug repelent on his clothes and skin driving the flies to the hat. the results for me were i had to run back in the house. i have wasted my money. kind of like buying the banjo minnow or anything else on TV. in my yard you get swarmed and if that happens and this works then why only one fly on the tape. i had two strips one on the back and one on the top. i got bit 5 times. nope did not work for me. oh did i say it did not work for me lol

    Not Effective
This year our area was besieged by a plethora of deer flies. I ordered these patches and anxiously awaited their arrival. After trying these patches exactly as per the instructions, I was disappointed. The patches caught a few mosquitoes and a few small greenheads — and that was all. Did not catch one deerfly. Research has shown that blue color attracts deerflies, yet these patches are a light tan in color. On the positive side, these patches are wonderfully designed and easy to stick onto your cap and also easy to remove without leaving a trace of residue on your cap. I suggest making these same patches, but with a blue color on the business end of the patch.
