Needs instructions; filter is thinner than others
From what I can tell, these are the same Top Fin filters Iâve used before, and they work fine in my tank (see Edit â theyâre different). But I am also assuming I am supposed to rinse them well with cool water before installing them, as I have always done before. If I didnât do that, perhaps they wouldnât work as well, and since not everyone who buys these will have experience with them, Iâm guessing some people wonât end up rinsing them. I donât know how important that is, but it might make a difference.These came in vacuum-sealed bags (see photo), so no box for storage or even identifying what they are. No biggie, but again, instructions would be useful. So my recommendation would be to make sure to rinse them before use. Otherwise, you should be good to go.Update: I looked closer and realized these are actually considerably thinner than the other filters I had. Whether that actually matters, I donât know, but I have added a photo showing the difference. Perhaps they are thicker filters can last longer, but I havenât had two dirty ones to compare side by side. See photo. Older filter is on the right; this one is on the left)

Do not work at all, cheap, & not good for turtles!
I have a musk turtle in a 10 gallon tank where the water is filled little over halfway. Itâs about 5 gallons of water. I deep cleaned the tank & completely replaced the water. I also cleaned the water filter machine & everything else in his tank. I did this on a Monday, but by Thursday, the entire tank looked like I never cleaned it. The filter looked like this (photos) when I took it out. Itâs like the filter did nothing at all. Theyâre incredibly thin & they trick you with all the extra filter pellets in them. They come vacuum sealed so you have to literally fluff them out. I rinsed the filter before using it & followed all the directions. I got these filters because I needed something more cost efficient, but you get what you pay for. Do not get these.

Great price and quality
Bought these as replacement filters for a small 5 gallon fish tank and they work great. I was not looking to break the bank and these totally fit the bill. The quality is not bad at all and I appreciate how well they are packaged when they arrived. Each filter was individually wrapped and sealed in a larger package as well. I haven’t had any issues so far and will continue to purchase these as I need to change them out. They fit our filter well and seem to be quite durable. Not a bad choice if you are looking to move away from pricey name brand tank filter replacements.

Good fit and like the carbon. But poor filtering of debris had to add additional filter floss
Fit my aquarium perfectly. The carbon in the center is great. However, the outside filter floss is very thin- like paper. I noticed that it does not remove small debris as well. I have to add additional filter floss for it to be effective. This cartridge will also have to changed it more often than my old cartridges as it is much thinner. 3 1/2 stars
