Very rough bristles for thicker coated cows and horses.
I have wanted to try one of these for my horses for a long time. During the summer months, my 2 horses and mini-Mule regularly back up to a fence post, or the side of the barn to scratch either their tail or sometimes their neck or face. We live in Florida, so even though they get hosed off daily, they still itch from sweating. I only ordered one, which is probably a mistake since I have 3 different-sized hooved “kids”….a Mini Mule, a 14.3 hand baby horse, and a 16 hand older horse. We have installed it on a large old oak and had to guess at the height to accommodate all 3 of them the best we could. We are keeping an eye on it and may need to lower it so all 3 can use it. So far, one of the horses does not like it at all. It’s quite stiff, and the bristles are sharp enough that I pricked my finger on them by accident, when feeling the brush after I opened the package. My younger horse said “no, thank you” to the bristles. He has a thinner coat and more sensitive skin. The other two are interested, but it may take them more time to get used to using it. It appears to be very sturdy and will likely last a long time, especially in the shade where we mounted it. I can see that it may be more appropriate for cattle or thicker-coated, less sensitive-skinned animals, but a super solid product.

Great for cows, may not work for your horse
If I were to use this for cows, I would be giving it 5 stars. I ordered this for my horse, and since it has a horse picture, I assumed that was a primary use. It may work for your horse, but it is too stiff for our horse. He tends to rub out his main and can cause scratches. It is shaped for a pipe rail and can be put in place easily with self tapping screws. You can also place it on a wooden rail, flat or corner.
