Not So Much
These synthetic sponges came packaged in a very small box that compacted them and seemingly misshaped them. However, even when decompressed, they still did not take a round shape. I can conclude that synthetic sponges are a poor substitute for real sponges. These have a noticeably different texture…a different density and not as soft. They will work, but not as well as real sponges. I will use these on cheaper tack, but not our top quality stuff. You can easily feel that the synthetic sponges are more abrasive than real sponges. For the same price, I would order natural sponges.

    Stiffer than my usual sponges

    I use these to clean underglaze off green ware and bisque ware before firing in the kiln. It comes off normally, I’d say it’s less absorbant than other yellow round pottery sponges I’ve used. Since I clean off a lot of projects in a row I just spin the sponge as I use it to get the freshest cleanest wipe and when it gets dirty I move onto the next and wash all the sponges at the end. It’s really sped up the process for me. I think it’s best for bisqueware cleaning.
