    EASY and HIGHLY EFFECTIVE
We’ve had an easy and HIGHLY effective experience using this trap to safely relocate squirrels of all sizes. We put in a small bowl of raw sunflower seeds in shells just past the metal trigger plate. While some birds fly in to get the seeds only the weight of the squirrel is actually setting off the trap door. We tied this up on the edge of a fence where the squirrels run often so it was immediately in their path. While surprising for them to be caught, no squirrel was injured. They were all safely transported to an open space location with abundant natural resources.

    Sturdy, reusable, great written/video instructions
This trap worked well for me on day one. Challenges I had: setting it up properly (I didn’t put the trigger rod through both openings in the trigger pedal first time around), baiting it (found I had to reach through the front to bait it), making sure the squirrel didn’t scratch me through the top mesh near the handles (which didn’t have a piece of sheet metal to protect against such a thing happening). Upsides: easy to set up by following the written instructions and as I later found, the video; latch kept the squirrel inside; very portable; easy to open and release the prisoner once you’ve brought them to a better location. I set this trap out today at 6am, moved it three times as I watched the squirrels and tried to capitalize on their favorite spot and by 10:30am I watched a gray squirrel walk fully inside the trap. Drove him to the woods for release. Reset the trap and around 12:20pm saw a fox squirrel get trapped (see video). Drove to woods for release. Reset the trap and around 1:40pm I noticed the trap door was down, another gray squirrel inside. Another drive and release. The final squirrel I’d like to relocate sniffed the trap and hasn’t gone in yet, I’ll keep trying. For bait I used about 1 tablespoon of cheap peanut butter smeared mostly under the back edge of the trigger plate, and a little bit on the front of it. Expect the animal to be panicked and chew and spin around. Talk softly, if at all, place an old towel underneath the cage in your trunk and one more on top of it to keep the animal calm as it’s being transported, and make sure the trap won’t tip over by putting heavy objects on either side of it. I’m relieved knowing these squirrels won’t be messing up my birdfeeders or chewing on my outdoor furniture anymore!

Durable, effective, simple. Works best with some tweaking and custom adjustments.
I had to put a piece of thick foam cut to the size of the floor of the trap on the bottom of the cage covering the trigger so that squirrels would actually set off the spring trap instead of just dodging the relatively small and relatively stiff pressure plate. It worked like a charm with the extra layer on the floor. The catch sometimes needs slightly adjusted with light bending or some light sanding if the catch and the trigger hook start to gall from sliding against each other. The trap initially is not super sensitive, probably good for a full size squirrel or larger, but I adjusted mine to be very sensitive without much trouble at all.P.S. The first thing I caught in this trap was a blue jay by accident who aggressively wanted the bait peanuts. Be aware that you are able to make the trap sensitive enough to be set off by a hollow-boned bird.

    Great Squirrel Trap
Having problems with Ground squirrels destruction of the bird feeders, digging holes in the hillside and potential vectors for fleas and disease.Easy to setup and trigger, baited with bird seed and positioned it. Caught 3 birds. Switch to peanuts and corn kernels bait which is too big for the birds. Caught first squirrel one week after the trap was delivered. Relocated the animal and the back of trap made it easy to release. The squirrel was agitated when first caught and I think its nose was cut on the cage trying to chew its way out.17″ trap is a good size for squirrels.

    Comes up short
The trap did not work out of the box. The long “L” shaped rod which is supposed to release the small latch which in turn releases the trap door, was over an inch too long. So it did not release the trap door. I shortened the rod to facilitate the door release. However, the mechanism is still not tripped by Digger squirrels, which are digging tunnels all around my property. It does however trip when larger gray tree squirrels enter the trap. I do not want to catch tree squirrels, so the trap is basically useless to me. The trap design is basically a good one, but it is not engineered correctly because of the incorrect length of the long rod, and did not work at all until I shortened that “L” shaped rod.

    Cage
Cage works grate, must check latching mechanism periodically for proper operation. It has the tendency to stick open.

What can I say: 7 squirrels in 48h. I hope I caught the whole family! Took some time with back and forth on the road to set them free out of range, but worth it.Also, assembled in a jiffy.

This is a well made and a certainly sturdy looking trap for squirrels and rats. The trap door mechanism comes down swiftly and the unit is easy to assemble. Unfortunately the lever is not that sensitive and the hinge that holds the top gate in place was damaged. Too bad, I would have liked to have given it a higher rating. If you get one that works properly you will have a strong unit.
