Why did you pick this product vs others?:Was looking for a squirrel proof feeder, have tried many others but this one seems to keep them away. The birds love it and I absolutely love the design of this feeder. Sturdiness:Had held up with winds! Squirrel protection:Squirrels have tried and have had no success. They have given up. Different types of birds feed from this feeder. Size:Perfect size!Functionality:Easy to clean and easy to refill!Bird population:Have gotten different types of birds feeding from here. Build quality:Built good, pretty sturdy!

Great overall, but not 100% squirrel-proof
Overall, the product is great. The birds like it, I like it… but so do the squirrels. I was hoping it was actually squirrel-proof, but I guess nothing is. I ended up having to get a baffle on the pole where I have this feeder hanging.That said, The feeder itself is sturdy and well-made overall. It has a nice blue color and holds a lot of bird seed. Overall, the value for the money is right on, and so far, it’s appearing to be rust resistant. The birds are able to sit on the small bars and enjoy their food, and I get to watch from the window. They do go through the seed pretty fast, so I have to refill it every couple of days.I mentioned I was hoping it was squirrel-proof, that’s because these sneaky ones we have here realized (prior to the baffle) that if they hang from the pole of the shepherd’s hook and lean over, they can pull down on the perches (the feeder acts as it’s supposed to and goes up so the main food is not accessible to them) but they could get the food that was on the ledge when the inside part goes up. That’s why I gave it 4 stars.

Really cute, squirrel could not get into it. The squirrel was reduced to eating what the birds dropped on the ground. So this is fairly easy to fill. The birds can land and eat but the whole thing goes down when a squirrel tries to eat and it blocks them from eating. It works easily by way of a spring. It looks cute.

Cardinals are too big for this feeder!!
It’s worthless unless you are only feeding very small birds. Smaller than cardinals! It specifically says that it is made for cardinals and other birds, but the cardinals were the first to come try and eat after I hung it up, and even the weight of just a cardinal was enough to engage the feeder to block the holes where the food is. It will NOT work with cardinals, they are too BIG for this feeder. Also, it took almost no time for the squirrels to figure out how to eat out of it, by just reaching from the pole the feeder was hanging from, and just getting little paws’ fulls of bird seed without setting off the blocking mechanism. So I bought it to keep squirrels out of the cardinal’s food, and instead I got a bird feeder that prevents cardinals access to the food, and the squirrels figured out how to eat from it within an hour, no problem. So I got a squirrel feeder that blocks the birds from eating. None of the birds I feed are small enough to eat from this bird feeder. I just got it this afternoon, filled it and hung it up. Less than a few hours and I had already repackaged it and requested a refund. It’s very cute, but unless you are only feeding very small birds, smaller than small cardinals, this isn’t going to work. I actually have another similar type of bird feeder but it’s too strong and the weight of a squirrel doesn’t close it, so it doesn’t work to keep the squirrels out either. I got this one hoping it would be more sensitive, but it’s too sensitive and locks out the birds! Also, it was a huge mess to fill because for some reason they put a bar across the middle of the fill hole, so it kept bouncing off the bar and getting all over the counter. I ended up using a funnel because it was making such a big mess. The bird seed didn’t smoothly go through funnel because it kept getting clogged, but still less messy than trying to pour it in with a measuring cup, even though that is what is recommended in the picture on the instructions. When I was filling it I was thinking this thing is going to be very difficult to clean, if it’s that big of a pain just to try and fill. If it was like $10-$15 I might would have kept it, and just hung it in a different area for MUCH SMALLER birds. But $30 for a small bird feeder was a bit much when I still need another bird feeder for the cardinals… Especially when the description at the very top of the item page specifically says it can be used for cardinals. Cardinals are small birds, so they would have to be really small birds to be able to eat from this feeder.

The feeder is made heavy duty so the squirrels will not damage it, BUT, they are capable of emptying the feeder of seeds. It would be helpful if there was a way the squirrels were unable to get at the seeds. My seeds disappear too quickly. Other than that I love the feeder.

Can’t say the birds come to it a few chickadee, the squirrel has attempted but not really successful , some seed does fall out if he tries to swing on it he has knocked the roof type lid off but he has not gone in thankfully it’s quite slim opening when they want the seed they are ruthless, but it has calmed down I just don’t add too much seed , but maybe more small birds will visit it soon, so overall happy with it .
