Fluval Stratum is the ideal aquarium substrate for stimulating the growth of aquatic plants in freshwater aquariums. Plant roots easily penetrate and spread throughout the substrate, allowing live aquarium plants to obtain a variety of key, readily available nutrients that will make them flourish. The addition of Fluval Plant Micronutrients will ensure a full complement of essential macro and micro. The substrate’s light, non-compacting, porous structure is also highly beneficial to nitrifying bacteria, which rapidly colonize the vast porous surface, providing optimal aquarium water quality for real plants. Fluval Stratum’s inherent properties will help support a neutral to slightly acidic pH, ideal for most plant species and species of tropical fish or shrimp normally kept in planted aquariums. Fluval Stratum also provides new aquarium shrimp with the ideal refuge, allowing them to escape predation until they are large enough to emerge into the shrimp tank. This highly attractive substrate will not discolor water and helps control organic discoloration usually present when natural driftwood aquarium décor is used. For more fish tank accessories check out the other Fluval products including Fluval aquariums, aquarium filters, filter media, aquarium heaters, aquarium air pumps, aquarium lights, fake plants, aquarium thermometer, fish food, aquarium gravel, planted aquarium tools, fish tank decorations and aquarium stands. Good stuff, minimal maintenance
Good stuff.Came highly recommended and now I recommend as well!Plants and fish are doing great. First time with live plantsI did not wash before adding to the tank, but waited a week to add plants then a few days more for fish. Water gets real cloudy then clears up. First couple times you disturb it the fine stuff comes up, but after a while it stays clear. Give it enough time. Not supposed to wash it like you wash gravel. Do your research!Good luck!

Solid Choice For Aquatic Life
This Fluval Plant and Shrimp Stratum stuff works pretty well. It’s not too hard to put in the tank, which is nice because I was worried about that at first (I once spent like an hour trying to arrange some rocks, but then I realized they were all just going to get moved around by the filter anyway). Anyway, this substrate helps my plants grow good and it seems to keep the water quality decent. My shrimp are definitely happy with it too – they’re always hiding in the little crevices and stuff. Makes me wonder if that’s where they sleep? (I mean, I know fish sleep kind of differently than humans but still…)Overall, this Fluval Plant and Shrimp Stratum is a good choice for anyone who wants to keep their plants and shrimp healthy. It’s easy to use and it does what it’s supposed to do. Plus, the price was really reasonable – I couldn’t find anything else that came close in terms of value (maybe because they don’t have to ship all the way from overseas or something? who knows).

Great for fish
Using this at first I was scared, the water was getting dark and I get a phobia of water I canât see. I let the filter run and it cleared overnight. Makes it perfect for decor but it helps your plants thrive and is easy to clean with a water vacuum. Comes in a big bag, definitely worth the price. Itâs a nice blown/black color type, doesnât have a smell. Itâs super easy to use, just follow the instructions, I read the bag, and I also ready some reviews online to see what others do for this type of gravel/soil. Makes the tank look so nice, I mixed it with white gravel and it just adds a lovely touch. Let it sit and adjust, have the filter run, I have 3 sponge filters in this tank so it definitely helped a lot and clears, even when cleaning

Excellent substrate for plants, fish and shrimp
This is a good substrate. I have a 20 gallon tank, so I bought one bag because I wasn’t sure what kind of soil I wanted to use (yes, I know the soil layer should be much larger, I read all the recommendations). It is stated that this substrate should be washed a little before use, I did so and it turned out to be a huge mess, it was difficult to pour it wet into the tank, it was difficult to put in, all the water became cloudy, next time I will not wash it and leave this job to the filter ð . It has been over a year and my plants were enough with such a small layer of substrate, but I would recommend buying at least 2 bags for 20 gallons, it would make it easier to plant plants. Now my plants feel good, fish and shrimp have had no problems either, sometimes I use liquid plant supplements, I don’t have CO2

Great product!
This is a great substrate for my alocasias, cuttings of all my other plant types, and nursing sick plants back to health. I will continue purchasing this as needed.

Not Bad, Just Be Careful of the Cloudiness.
First time trying any substrate of this type. Even thought many of the reviews I read here mentioned to rinse this product off with water before putting it in the tank (as I did) and then filling it up due to it clouding up the water. It still clouded the water up pretty bad. I did find out that after rinsing and mixing it with gravel as the first layer and then covering it with one inch or more of sand, that the cloudiness is not a problem as in my other two experimental tanks in which I tested this product. With that, I will state that after the cloudiness was resolved the plants in the tanks have done very good and the growth rate of the plants is impressive. I will also recommend that if you have fish such as Plecos, Banjo catfish, or any other type of fish that digs into the substrate for cover or nest build, that you increase the volume of sand you would normally use, since once they hit the substrate you will get the cloudiness as I did. Other wise it is a good product. The 4 stars is due to the cloudiness.

You won’t be disappointed
The product has proven to be quite effective, creating a natural environment that both plants and fish seem to thrive in. The plants adapt well, flourishing beautifully, and the fish seem to appreciate the ecosystem as well. However, I’ve noticed that when the plants are still small, a strong water flow can easily displace them, causing them to float on the surface of the tank. This issue may stem from not allowing enough time for the plants to establish strong root systems before introducing them to the water flow.Despite this minor setback, I have found this product to exceed my expectations. It doesnât cloud the water as much as I initially feared, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that any murkiness clears up within a day after the water is added. Overall, this setup creates a very harmonious ecosystem ideal for keeping fish alongside live plants, which really enhance the tankâs appeal. Iâve observed remarkable growth in the plants just four days after introduction, indicating a vibrant and healthy environment.

I have been using normal sand in my nano aquarium from about last 1yr or so but now the plant growth started to reduce. This is the reason why I thought to try a substrate. This fluval is good, plants looks healthy now but nothing very exceptional to say. This pack is too much for my nano tank, i have half of the contents left in the packet.

Recouvert de gravier, ne trouble pas l’eau du tout. Il faut verser l’eau lentement. A voir après au niveau de la pousse des plantes.

Bought this for my aquascape 20 gallon fish tank. This is my first aquascape tank. So far the plants are loving it. It was easy to work with. Although it seems expensive but I’m glad I got it. Would recommend.
