good solution for my picky turtle
My box turtle never showed any interest in live insects, and will go out of her way to ignore any food I’ve dusted with calcium. She’s happy to munch on this mix of dried insects though, which is major progress, since she’s finally getting a good source of insect protein and natural calcium in addition to the fruits, veggies, and other protein I give her. Based on similar products I’ve tried, I was expecting these to smell much worse than they do – it has a buggy scent to it, but it’s not that strong and not offensive. The trail mix seems like its mostly mealworms, which is fine for my box turtle. I chose the trail mix because I wanted to give her a variety of insects, but the mealworms are easiest for her to manage. These insects are completely dried, so I expect they’ll last a long time if properly stored. Portions can can be soaked for individual feedings, but it seems like my turtle doesn’t mind them dry either. If you have a flock of chickens or several hungry reptiles, this 1lb bag might go quicker than expected, but for my one small turtle it’ll take over a year to get through this amount.

Mostly mealworms, some shrimp heads, and a few crickets
I got these for my wild birds who love crickets and mealworms. This mix is mostly mealworms, the shrimp all appear to be just shrimp heads, and there are very few crickets. Iâm disappointed because I wouldâve bought them separately or all crickets if I had known this bag would be mostly mealworms. The crows and the blue jays seemed to like the food, but I already knew they were mealworms fans. Hopefully they enjoyed the occasional cricket and shrimp head as a special treat. I was not a fan of the smell. My other bag of mealworms smelled like nothing. So I think itâs the shrimp heads that are giving off the odor. The bag is resealable, so I only had to smell it when I was putting it out. A fun sounding mix, but next time, Iâll go with a single protein source and mix it up myself, without the shrimp heads.

Good Variety, Chickens Like Them
I got the mix of insects. My chickens usually have either mealworms or black soldier fly larvae. I wasn’t sure about getting them straight crickets or grasshoppers, so I picked the mix. Right when I threw the mix down, they were excited to eat them (but the crickets seemed to be their least favorite, so I’m glad I didn’t get just those). Maybe it’s because my chickens aren’t used to those? The crickets are the least represented item in the bag. This mix is just a treat and not meant to replace feed. At the current price of $19.99, I feel like these are priced normally for the amount. But, they were $29.99 when I placed my order, and that seems like not a good value. This is a medium to small bag. They smell pretty similar to the worms that I usually get. The expiration on them is 2028 so far away. The quality and freshness seems fine.I look at reviews a lot while shopping. I hope this review helps!

Protein for My Ladies
Chickens need protein for proper egg production. While they get a good amount of that from their food, it is fun to supplement them with some dried bugs. My chickens are familiar with dried mealworms, so when I dropped in a handful of these dried grasshoppers into their run, they were a bit confused. One of the chickens ventured forward and started eating, and then the floodgates opened. The pile of grasshoppers was dispatched in a matter of moments. They enjoyed them.Pros: Quality bugs that your chickens will lose their tiny little minds over.Cons: These bugs stink. It does not stick on your hands, but it is very pungent and foul.Overall, after a very brief introductory and discovery period, my chickens went crazy for these dried grasshoppers. They are a good source of protein, and I hope this will keep them healthy and entertained. This one is a buy.

Birds won’t eat
My birds would not touch, never mind eat, these crickets. Expensive waste of money.

My chickens liked them
When I opened the bag I inhaled a rich, earthy , almost meaty scent and thought âeverybodyâs gonna love these!â But actually not all of them did. First I offered them to my chickens . The dried crickets are pretty large, and the birds pecked at them a bit to break them up but they seemed enthusiastic and ate every bit.I soaked the crickets briefly to soften them up , and offered them to my box turtles . Now, these turtles will happily eat live, in-shell snails, just chomping right down on the the shell . So food doesnât have to be soft. I am sure they would eat live crickets if I offered them , but they wouldnât eat these . Wouldnât even try them . I put some out in a bird feeder for the wild birds and, wet or dry, they wouldnât touch these big crickets. I really canât explain that but the chickens accept them.

Decent freeze-dried grasshoppers
These freeze-dried grasshoppers are approved by my bearded dragon. I use them as an occasional salad topper and he enjoys the taste and crunches away at them. They are a calcium-rich feeder. There’s no mention of the word organic which means they’re not fed an organic diet when they’re alive, but at least they’re all-natural. Whatever the grasshoppers ingest, our pets ingest. It’s not healthy to give our pests pesticides, which is why I’m deducting 2 stars and only using the grasshoppers as an occasional treat. Is it really that costly to give them organic foods? It’s worth it in the end for the health of our pets.

You get a lot!
The LuckyQworms dried fish seems to be fairly good quality! My pets love them. They seem fresh although I wasn’t going to personally taste them to find out! Lol. You get A LOT for the price. It’s difficult to find these in a large bag and not get ripped off. They’re advertising these for chickens but you can use them for any pet that’ll eat fish, like dogs and cats. Personally I use these for my pet rats and they go bonkers for them.
