Next time you take a walk in the woods or your local park listen to the variety of beautiful melodies of the winged singers collectively known as songbirds. There are over 4,000 species of songbirds throughout the world. From Blue Jays and Robins to Sparrows, Swallows and Finches, every songbird sings their own unique sound. Now you can enjoy any number of bird species in your own yard by attracting them and not the pesky squirrels with our Squirrel X1 squirrel-proof Songbird Feeder.
Our revolutionary Squirrel X1 squirrel-proof Songbird Feeder protects your birdseed and allows you to feed the birds not the squirrels! Featuring four squirrel-proof feeding ports with long, sturdy perches, the metal sliding sleeve will close all ports simultaneously when a squirrel’s weight is applied to any perch or the roof. The Squirrel X1 can accommodate 4.2 pounds of seed and has a wide mouth for easy filling. The lovely satin nickel finish will complement any outdoor décor and blend in nicely with nature.

  • Great defense against squirrels.
  • Select the seed to attract your favorite birds.
  • Constant food at every port.
  • Four integrated metal perches.
  • Wide mouth top for easy filling.

Hanging Your Seed Feeder
Feeders can be either hung from a strong branch/shepherd’s hook or they can be pole or post mounted. In any case, select a location that is near enough to tree/bushes that adequate escape cover (from predators) is accessible for your feeding birds. The feeder should be at least four to five feet from the ground, this will help keep it out of reach from marauding raccoons and other critters. Be careful not to place your feeder too close to large windows, this will help prevent collisions on your windows, and this also allows your birds more escape flight routes when predators show up. Take into consideration where you will be typically viewing your birds from, and this line-of-sight is also important for monitoring the seed/nectar levels in your feeders. If you are planning to photograph your feathered friends while they feed, consider a location where there is at least partial sunlight available.

Cleaning the Feeder
Remove locking metal roof by squeezing the plastic tabs located under the rim and lifting. Hand wash with warm water and a mild antibacterial soap. Rinse thoroughly and let dry completely before refilling with seed.

Customers say

Customers find the bird feeder well-made, easy to fill often, and appreciate its good construction design. The feeder holds several days of seed and works effectively at keeping squirrels out. While some customers describe it as heavy-duty, others report it breaking easily, and though birds love it, opinions on squirrel protection are mixed.

Nice feeder and many squirrels tried but NONE got in it!
I had my doubts about this feeder, but I figured I would give it a try. I am glad I did. First it is a great size feeder holding a great amount of seed but even better is that there has been about 20 squirrel’s that have tried to get at this feeder and even the ones that sit on the deck railing and reach up do not get at the seed. The feeder is attached to a pole next to my deck and the bottom of the feeder is about 15 inches higher than the top deck railing. The squirrel’s will either reach up and grab the bottom which then closes the openings of the seed ports OR the squirrels will climb on top of the feeder which then closes the seed ports. The songbirds love the feeder and are always on it (That is more due to the type of seed then the feeder) but every time the squirrel’s go to it, they fail. I have had the feeder up for about two months and have yet to see a single squirrel get at any seed. Also, I can go sometimes 3 days before needing to add seed to it since it holds over 4 lbs. of seed. Great feeder but keep in mind that if there is anything next to the feed that will allow a squirrel to sit or hang on without putting their weight on the feeder itself then you will run the risk of a squirrel reaching at the seed ports and being able to eat the seed. My feed is hanging above my deck rail so the squirrels will either have to reach up (about 15″) at the feeder or climb down on top of the feeder. Either situations will make the weight of the squirrel pull down or press down on the feeder which then closes the seed ports.

Buy this one! I know what I’m talking about.
This is a great squirrel proof feeder I bought some nicer looking metal ones but this is by far the best one. The issue is that when you fill the OTHER feeders the weight of the feed partially closes them. With the smallest metal feeder I can only fill it ⅓ or it completely closes due to the weight of the seeds (sunflower with some peanuts). This plastic feeder doesn’t have that issue and the squirrels can’t get into it. It’s easy to fill and sturdy enough. The birds love it. It empties first. I’m buying another one!

4 years of good use, could have refurbished
I got the same feeder 4 years ago based on a neighbor’s recommendation. I really liked it. No squirrels even tried to get to it. Pesky jays too heavy. But the wire used to hang the feeder was getting frayed badly, poking my fingers, and it was a matter of time before it would break. Plus a heavy scum coated the inside of the plastic seed container and needed to be cleaned. I probably could have refurbished it with some effort, but gave myself a present and bought a new one. Gave the old one away for someone else to fix and enjoy.

Only feeder I will ever purchase
This is the only birdfeeder I will buy. It is truly squirrel proof. A few have tried but failed. Now they eat the sea that falls on the ground along with the doves. I put black oil sun flowerseed in the bottom compartment and mixed birdseed in the smaller side compartments. Birds of all types seem to be happy. I have two feeders about 4 feet apart and have to purchase 2-40 pound bags of feet a month. I am planning to add a third feeder. Just wish they were less expensive.

    Does not work
This is a very poorly designed birdfeeder. If You feeder birds using sunflower seed it will clog repeatedly such that the birds can not get any seeds. If you shake the feeder hard it will unclog it but only for a very short time, and then it quickly becomes clogged again. It is a waste of your money and if you don’t figure that out within 30 days of receiving it, you will get absolutely no help or interest from the seller.

It defeated the squirrels, but there are drawbacks…
Short version: maybe, I would recommend this. It defeated the squirrels, but there are drawbacks in critter-attracting seed drops, difficulty in cleaning, and seed doesn’t slide down as birds eat. This looked to be the solution for our squirrel problems, and it did defeat the squirrels. However, as birds eat all of the seed that they can reach, the remaining seed does not slide down to refill the feeding port. Trying sunflower seed, ground sunflower seed, and smaller seed presents the same problem. Tapping, shaking, or other action is required for seed to slide down to be accessible for the birds.Although the target species is finch, other birds (e.g. titmouse and larger) are successful in feeding. With no catch area below it, quite a bit of the seed falls to the ground, from bird activity, wind, etc. causing other critters, opossum, armadillo, deer, (last night we just had skunks) dig in the planter beneath the feeder. So our squirrel solution has created a destructive critter problem. As others have mentioned, cleaning can also be difficult. Getting into the edges & nooks is tedious, with all the angles leading to feeding ports. So “maybe” I would recommend this feeder. It definitely solved the squirrel problem. So, if you do not have a ground-feeding pest population, find some way to make the “feed slides” be slick, and do not regularly clean your bird feeders, this could be an effective, attractive finch (and small bird) feeder.
