It is squirrel proof!
Great product! It was fun watching the pesky squirrel shimmy up the pole to figure out how to get some seeds to no avail. He finally gave up! I added safflower seeds to the mix which squirrels do not like, but the cardinals love and many have been emptying out the feeder. This feeder is very well made, easy to fill and really is a deterrent to those cute but pesky critters. They also added information about bird watching too, if you love birds. I highly recommend it and may have to get another one if many more birds arrive. I love the hummingbirds, too, and have a separate feeder for those tiny guys too.

Squirrels don’t stand a chance
We have a neighbor that has used these for multiple years and loves them. They are still working great for her even after all the years. Super durable! I like how easy it is to fill them and still keep squirrels out. We have seen so many birds within the last couple of days since adding these to our back porch. They have a triangle loop to use to hang so it would have to be on a hook but it is easy to use.

Yes, it really is squirrel proof!
Works well for discouraging squirrels, but be prepared for them to spend a few days trying to get seed out. They will scratch, chew and deface it until they give up. The birds like it but the cardinals have a bit of a hard time getting the seed out because the perches are a bit close to the cylinder which causes them to have to bend their neck. I think ordering the next size up (2.5 lb. capacity) will solve that problem.

Great feeder but very small seed capacity
The design works very well. Small birds love it. Doves, Bue Jays, and squirrels do not. This is my third “squirrel-proof” feeder in the last year.. The first was simply a plastic tube covered by metal mesh. It was a complete fail as squirrels just clung the the mesh and feasted all day long on the unprotected openings! The second was a $20 feeder fro Walmart called the ‘ More Birds Squirrel-X2 Feeder.’ this design was promising and had doors activated by the weight of the squirrel that covered the openings. It worked well for almost 8 months before the squirrel chewed off the plastic components securing the lid and hanging cables – smart squirrels! The Brome 1057 is very well designed and well made. I’ve had it for three days and the birds are very happy. The squirrels have attacked it several times and cannot access the seed opening. The have clawed and gnawed at every inch of it and done no damage (other then a few scratched in the paint). They do, however, seem content to now pounce on the feeder to dislodge enough seed to ground feed for a while…My main dislike is the small size of the seed container. It holds about 3-4 cups of seed, or about 24 hours worth in my active backyard. The X-2 held almost a week’s worth of seed. I know Brome makes a larger model – but I was not willing to plunk down $95 on a feeder that I wasn’t sure would work.UPDATE: APRIL 4, 2016I’ve had this feeder for several days now and have watched two squirrels repeatedly try to defeat it. The good news is that they have NOT figured out a way to feed directly from the feeder – despite their constant gnawing and scratching at the metal casing. The bad news is that they’ve figured out that by pouncing on the feeder from a branch 4 feet away they can dislodge enough seed to ground feed….Also, a few Blue Jays have figured out how to quickly hop on a perch while fluttering their wings and grab a seed or two before hopping back to the nearest branch. It’s actually quite entertaining to watch. A couple of red-bellied woodpeckers are regular visitors as are a few cardinals and they, unlike other birds, seem content to sit on the perches for long periods of time while occasionally pecking for some food.I am having to refill this feeder every 24 hours – which is really inconvenient. I removed two of the four perches this weekend to reduce the time between refills.

Happy Customer! This is a great Feeder!
I loved my SB Plus but the poly tube cracked at the base after 2 years. Called them up, asked a price they said free, warranty. I forgot that part! This is a perfect addition to the family. I wanted one smaller capacity for different feed and birds. And the squirrels just eat what the birds drop. Perfect solution. I’m a fan of their products. This one is tops.

Awesome feeder to annoy your kids cats with!!
We purchased a cheap bird feeder years ago at a farm and home type store. I bought it to annoy my kidâs cats and placed it in front of the window that they sit in front of. The birds would stop by on occasion and drive the cats crazy. My payback for all the times the cats thought I needed to get up at 3:00 in the morning. The feeder was constantly clogging with molded seed. We could only place a tiny amount in the feeder, otherwise it would mold and be a mess to clean up. We had the same feeder for years until one day the squirrelsâ decided last winter that the feeder was theirs. They would sit on a snow pile next to the feeder and play King of the hill. Anything that came near the feeder would be ran off. While the squirrelâs did annoy the cats some, they still could not compare to the amount of havoc the birds would cause. Our cats are pure evil and only complete bird torture would do. I was going to have to find a way to get rid of the squirrels so the birds could return. I looked at many devices to keep the squirrels away, and ended up purchasing the Squirrel Buster Standard, I installed the new feeder as soon as it arrived. The squirrels tried for a couple of days to eat out of the new feeder and it was very entertaining to watch them try, but no matter what they did, the Standard model kept them out and they have not been back since.Happy with my purchase, what came next was totally unexpected. The birds started coming in flocks to the new feeder. Same exact location and same exact food as the other feeder, but the birds loved the new feeder. So much in fact that they emptied it the first day we set it out. The birds just kept on coming and soon we were having to fill it two or three times day. The Squirrel Buster feeders are on the more expensive side, but the engineering and quality of parts are so worth it. We got tired of filling the feeder several times a day and decided to purchase the Plus model with the Cardinal ring. The plus feeder is pretty large, but considering the birds will empty it in a couple of days we appreciate the extra capacity. The standard model could not keep up and I ended up having to buy the legacy model which is larger and holds a lot more seed. We still have the standard model, but place fruit and nut seed in it that is not eaten as fast. We now have four squirrel buster feeders and a bird airport in front of the house. At this point I almost feel sorry for the cats, They are a complete mess and are constantly begging us to go outside. I was also, not expecting the reduction in insects. We used to have constant spider webs in our windows and would be eaten alive at night sitting on the porch. I have only seen a couple of spiders this year and we can now sit on our porch in the evening and not be bothered by bugs.I would highly recommend the company and their products. All of the bird feeders are easy to clean, easy to fill, and the birds seem to like them a lot. Very happy with the brome products other than our birdseed bill is just crazy anymore. 🙂

Easy to fill, always good quality from brome. Squirrels leave it alone so the birds are happy.

I’ve been fighting a losing battle to keep squirrels away from the bird seed in the feeders – the problem is that squirrels are quite bright and have found ways around the other so-called squirrel proof feeders I’ve tried. As far as I can see and after some weeks of use, this feeder really does keep the squirrels away – I can’s see how they defeat the spring mechanism which lowers a barrier when they put their weight on the perches. The mechanism can apparently be fine-tuned to stop heavier birds from feeding too, though I don’t have this problem. The feeder looks well-made (and so it should be for the price) and its straightforward to clean. All in all it’s worth the money to me – song birds are feeding from it regularly and squirrels no longer even try to get the seed.

I have several of these feeders around the garden and the squirrels can not get into them so long as you don’t have them near a handy places where the squirrel could reach out to them. They are excellent feeders and the birds love them. They do get messy sometimes so need cleaning from time to time.I fill them with sunflower hearts which the birds love particularly Goldfinches ! My only negative about these feeders are that they are expensive but they do last !!

No assembly required, looks sturdy. I haven’t had it long, but it seems to help. It took a bit for the birds to figure it out.
