Test it before you install it.
1st one didn’t work, 2nd one works fine. Luckily I tested it before installing it. They replaced it pretty quick.Really bright but you can adjust it and it has many levels to choose from. The instructions are a bit vague. If you turn it on with the timer, you just started the timer. We’re using the 12H timer. When it turns on and off via the timer, it does so in several steps of brightness over a few minutes. The suction cups work fine but suction cups sometimes release themselves so I reinforced it with some metal strips I saved from old windsheild wipers and hot glue.

Great light!
This fish tank light works great! It was also very easy to install and has a decent length cord. I love the all the colors and my fish seem to like it, too. I haven’t tried the timer function yet, though. It has seemed to help on lowering the algae growth. That’s the main reason I got this one to have a lower brightness. My tank grew algae quickly with the really bright light I did have. It’s only a 5 gallon tank and doesn’t need a ton of light. I definitely recommend this light. It’s even a fair price comparably.

Affordable, vibrant glowâjust expect to replace the suction cups
When I purchased my tall 20-gallon hexagon tank and our glow fish, I knew a black light was a must to really bring the colors to life. The brand-name option was way too expensive for just a light, so I took a chance on this more affordable version.I was a little concerned it would be too small for the height and shape of our tank, but once I plugged it in, I was pleasantly surprisedâit lit everything up beautifully and gave our tank that perfect glowing effect I was looking for. Definitely worth the purchase! The only downside was the suction cups. They didnât hold well for long, especially with the moisture inside the tank. I ended up replacing them with sturdier ones, and havenât had any other issues since. If youâre looking for a great black light on a budget, this is a solid choiceâas long as youâre prepared to swap out the suction cups.

I have two of these. I do like them but two things. I find the power cable coming out of one end sort of limits where I can use the light, and, I wish they were just a little bit brighter. I know it says they are 1.8 watts but I had no idea what that would mean in terms of brightness. I like how you can orient the light by twisting it in relation to the suction cups. They have multiple colours, which I don’t really find very useful, and you can adjust the brightness but overall thy are just a tad on the dim side. Better in a smaller tank. I have a 3 gallon bow front and 2.5 gallon rectangular tank that mine are in but I don’t think they’d be suitable for anything much bigger than those.

Purchased this item in August for a 10 gallon fishtank with a hood. Initially I secured it to the back of the tank, but the lighting wasn’t great so then I secured it to the inside of the lid. I had issues getting the suction cups to hold, then I Googled a trick to apply vaseline to the cups and it held nicely after that. About a month after, I started experiencing issues where the light would dim on it’s own or turn on on it’s own without touching any settings (including the timer). I was able to fix it by either plugging it in to a different outlet or turning it on and off again. About a week after this, it would dim and change to yellow (when it was set to white) and the lights would flicker and turn off. If I turned the cord at the connecter it would sometimes turn back on, as though it was a power issue and the connection wasn’t getting good contact between the power supply and the light. I’m still having that issue and the light stays off more than on so I have to replace it after about 6 weeks of use!! Of course I’m out of the 30 day replacement deadline so I’m out of luck! What a waste of money!

So far so good itâs exactly what I needed

This light was no good for my application. There’s a possibility had I bought a larger one it would be ok. For “in water” I got a build up so fast it dulled the light even more. I ended up suctioning in inside the lid so it was above water.

WARNING…. IT GETS HOT! ð¥I have it stuck to the OUTSIDE of my aquarium bc didn’t want to chance it inside it bc some reviews on these types of lights say the chemicals & coloring leaks out into the aquarium killing the fish. This light also gets VERY hot so didn’t want it inside the aquarium for that reason as well. Don’t want dead fish!If you suction it to outside of the aquarium it’s fine & works well.If the suction cups won’t stay, wet them a bit 1st. If that doesn’t work- I’ve tied a string arnd it & attached it to the the top rim of the tank via a bag clip in case the suction gives way, so it won’t fall.July 17, 2025
