Just Me –
A Mental Oasis in an Overwrought World
Let me start by saying that aquariums and the environment around them can be fantastic for plants in dry climates, particularly, in the winter. However, all too often, the problem becomes where to put the plants for maximum benefit. That is, where can you put the plant that needs lots of moist air so that it gets, well…, the moistest air possible. Precariously balancing a pot on the edge is not an option, and, honestly, I am tired of trimming the roots of land plants that love to have the roots in the aquarium to keep them from putting their roots into the substrate and outcompeting the aquatic plants for nutrients. These plant holders worked wonders in both a rimless and a rimed aquarium. There are a lot of things where I expect precision and demand it from a product, aquariums and their accessories are one area where I never thought I would see any real precision, ever. I gladly stand corrected because these plant holders fit so perfectly and are so sturdy that I am not worried about the disaster that a pot full of dirt falling in the aquarium would create. I know that there are methods by which some sorts of soils can be used under layers of gravel as a very effective substrate, however, that is not the same thing as having the soil free in the water column! Considering the rim of the rimed aquarium is black, the color of the plant holder blends in amazingly well and naturally. That is to say that guests see it as something that came with the aquarium with this specific use in mind.If you live in a dry climate and enjoy plants, even if you do not actually have any fish, a tank with a filter and four of these plant holders can make an excellent habitat for the plants and a kind of mental oasis for you. The sound of water falling can be exceptionally soothing and the plants will love the moist air. Moreover, these holders are versatile and fit both smaller (6 gallon cube) and larger (proportionally, 20 gallons) tanks equally well. Eventually, I will have the kind of filter I envision and it will be hidden behind the plants within it and the plants on these plant holders. I know they will be around, they are very well made and well worth the price. In fact, I urge you to get a pair just in case –even if you do not have plants around your aquarium right now– because they are a solid value period, however, at the price, they are a steal!

Not one size fits all
Overall, this is a pretty good stand for holding plants over an aquarium. I have fed self-watering wicking ropes through the bottom of the plant pot and put it on the stand. It makes care really easy, as I can’t forget to water and some amount of fish waste travels up to feed the plant. How it fits on your aquarium, however, will vary. On my rimless tank, there is some amount of wobble, making the platform a bit unstable (but still usable if your aquarium isn’t bumped frequently). While this is advertised for rimless tanks, I found that it actually fits on my rimmed Aqueon branded 20 gallon long tank too. It did take a little bit of careful pushing, but it is a very snug fit and the stands won’t move. I like the look — it is modern, attractive, and subtle. The clear color lets the eye focus on your aquarium and your plants. I like this set, but just note that it may not fit perfectly on your tank…

Fits any size square/ rectangle aquarium- great purchase
Just what I needed! Quality and cost effective. These are easy to install and can be used as a shelf as well. The clear ones work so well with my frameless tanks. You can effectively use these in any size right angle type of aquarium and It holds up the Pothos and the bamboo like a champ. I like that this makes the set up of aquarium plants functional and bodes well for the ease of cleaning.

The Real Deal –
Sturdy and useful for lidless aquariums
These shelves are very sturdy and easy to use since they can be placed on both rimless and rimmed aquariums. The plastic itself is firm and about 1/8th an inch thick, so it can hold a decent amount of weight. It can be used in creative ways for plants that root in water or air pumps and fit most aquariums 5 gal or larger (I’ve placed it on my 6 gal cube and 20 gal tall). Overall it is very useful for aquariums without lids.

Use to hold grow lights
I use my aquarium to hold plants (no water or fish). I got these to help hold my grow lights in place. As for putting them on the aquarium, they donât fit well. Maybe itâs because of the type of top I have on the aquarium, I donât know. The inner ledge like piece prevents the shelf from sliding all the way down onto the top of the aquarium. Please see pics. I have several other aquariums that are all designed the same way.Luckily, Iâm still able to use the shelves for what I need. And it looks nice and works well.

Not well balanced
How well this item functions is very dependent on what style of aquarium you have. I tested it on 2 tanks, both rimmed. It fit extremely snugly on one and loosely on the second. I think it’s much better suited for rimmed tanks than rimless. You also can’t use this with a lid. The shelf itself looks very nice, though it does slightly interfere with where I have to put my aquarium light since the shelf takes up a decent amount of space.I didn’t find the plant holder to be very useful- the hole was too big to fit my plants and thru just kept sliding through. The big hole in the center also meant I had to be mindful about what I put on top of it. Since it is curved and not straight across, you have to be mindful not to put things on the edge, otherwise the shelf will tip over and dunk your items into the water.
