Family Learns Their “American Bulldog” Is Actually a Purebred Pit Bull, and They Couldn’t Love Him More
When Maggie Wright and her family adopted Jake from the Humane Society of Burnett County in Wisconsin, they were told he was an American Bulldog. His broad chest, square jaw, and soulful eyes all seemed to fit that description perfectly. But a few months later, a simple DNA test revealed a surprise that completely changed what they thought they knew about their beloved dog.
From the start, Jake was everything the Wright family had hoped for in a companion. Loyal, affectionate, and endlessly playful, he quickly became the center of family life. Maggie and her brother, Renae, often laughed at his goofy expressions, wagging tail, and habit of snuggling as close as possible to his humans. Still, they occasionally wondered about his true breed. To satisfy their curiosity, they decided to order a DNA test, expecting to see a mix that included Bulldog and perhaps a few other breeds.
When the results arrived, the family couldn’t believe their eyes.
In a viral Reddit post titled “Whelp, we were wrong,” Maggie revealed that Jake wasn’t an American Bulldog at all. The DNA test showed he was one hundred percent American Pit Bull Terrier. The revelation stunned everyone in the household and quickly caught the attention of thousands online.
Reactions poured in from dog lovers across social media. Many said they could easily see why the family thought Jake was a Bulldog, while others were struck by how adorable he was regardless of the label. “That’s the most Bulldog-looking Pit I’ve ever seen,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Whatever he is, he’s perfect.”
Despite the unexpected news, the Wright family’s feelings toward Jake didn’t change at all. In fact, they say it only deepened their appreciation for him. “We realized it didn’t matter what breed he was,” Maggie shared. “He’s our dog, and we love him just the same.”
A family in Seattle dropped their dog, a black lab named Mitch, off at a local kennel one day, not expecting anything unusual to occur. But Mitch’s stay at the kennel ended with an employee brutally kicking and punching him – to the point of death.
Jake continues to bring laughter and warmth to their home every day. Whether he’s curling up on the couch, playing fetch in the yard, or greeting neighbors with his big, friendly grin, he proves that love and loyalty have nothing to do with labels. The family says they wouldn’t change a single thing about their “Bulldog-turned-Pit Bull” boy.
Jake’s story is a simple but powerful reminder that breed doesn’t define a dog’s heart. Sometimes, the biggest surprises reveal the truest lessons: what matters most isn’t what’s on the outside, but the unconditional love and joy a pet brings into our lives.
